Powerless
Pairing: Rafe Cameron x Reader
Warnings: extremely toxic!rafe, violence, swearing, many threats issued
Summary: you hate being a Pogue. Hate how vulnerable and weak and powerless it makes you. Rafe reinforces this for you.
Word count: 2.1k
A/N: heavily based off of season 1 episode three of obx when pope is delivering groceries and Rafe jumps him. also the ferrari sf90 spider is actually my favourite car so i yapped about it a lil bit :)
Tumblr media
You were helping Heyward load the grocery bags onto the boat alongside Pope and JJ, stacking the bags of food and other knick knacks in the middle of the vehicle.
“You kids get these groceries over to Figure Eight,” Heyward instructed, grunting as he lifted a pair of heavy bags off the dock and moved over to the boat, Pope, waiting at the ready, taking them from his father. “Get straight back here when you’re done.” He gave you a pointed look. “No fishing.”
You grinned at him, saluting him as you grabbed a pair of bags from him and placed it on the boat. JJ was right next to you, with Pope behind, the three of you working in tandem.
“I promised delivery by this afternoon,” Heyward continued. “Rich folk don’t want to wait for you lazy sons-” Seeing JJ with his arms already outstretched waiting for another bag of groceries and a beaming smile on his face gave Heyward pause. “Oh, JJ, thank you.” As soon as JJ grabbed the groceries he continued. “-sons of bitches.”
He glanced at you. “Excusing you, of course, Y/n. You’re always a delight.”
You beamed at him and JJ gave a scoff. “How come you get all the praise and I get nothing?”
You sniffed, flipping your hair to the side. “‘Cause I’m better.”
“Are not.”
“Are too.”
“Are-”
Heyward interrupted the two of you. “Hey, alright enough. No bickering. Get your asses moving and deliver these groceries.”
You all gave the man a salute and entered the cabin part of the boat as Pope started it up. Heyward didn’t trust JJ enough to drive the boat and knew you’d end up going the wrong way with your poor sense of direction, so Pope was in charge of steering the vehicle.
You drove through the river, leaving the Pogue side behind and entering Figure Eight, the Kooks domain. You noted the large houses, clean and tidy, and the smooth way they all seemed to be running with enough electricity and clear running water to their heart's content.
“Doesn’t even look like the storm hit there,” Pope exclaimed in indignation. No doubt he was thinking about your own houses, all of them damaged in some way and not yet fixed.
JJ twirled a pocket knife in his hands. “That’s because they got generators, bro. Get used to it.”
You scowled, shaking your head. “And then they say the juice will be out all summer at the cut.”
Pope shook his head, jaw clenched. “Nice to be a Kook.”
You nodded your head in agreement as JJ said, “lucky bastards.”
“One day I’m gonna become a Kook,” you said. “Dunno how yet, but I’m gonna go full Kook, with a pool, mansion, Ferrari SF90 Spider.”
JJ and Pope both groaned as you mentioned your favourite car, again. Sometimes they found you just never shut up about it, going on about the horsepower, the V8 engine, the fact it was the very pinnacle of Ferrari technology, with the thrill and versatility of open top driving.
“Time for you to stop talking,” JJ said, commandeering the conversation. You didn’t mind, content to listen to him for the rest of the way to Figure Eight, where you docked the boat and divvied out the grocery bags between you.
You and Pope were gonna go together, with JJ taking the rest and heading in the other direction. You bid each other quick goodbyes and hurried with Pope, walking around the unfamiliar streets. Everything looked so much nicer here, from the pavement to the shops lining the streets, everything inside looking like it cost more than a week's worth of your pay.
You took a shortcut, walking through the golf course instead of around it. The employees let you through without a second glance. It was surprising what you could get away with as a Pogue working in Figure Eight. The two of you walked on the side of the golf course, talking under your breaths as you looked around cautiously.
“I’m also going to golf here every week,” you stated, watching a particularly fit woman swing a golf club, her muscles flexing with exertion.
You could almost imagine it being you, the golf club, hat, skirt, everything. If you really thought about it, the girl almost looked like you, similar hair colour and figure.
Pope laughed. “You hate golfing.”
You shrugged, swinging the bags in your hands slightly as you walked. “Yeah, but it's what Kooks do isn’t it?”
“What is your obsession with being a Kook?” Pope asked. “I get being rich, everyone wants it, but you seem almost obsessed with it.”
You opened your mouth to defend yourself when movement caught your eye. You involuntarily recoiled when you recognised Topper and Rafe heading towards you. Pope noticed too, muttering swear words under his breath and advising you to just walk past and ignore them.
“Hey what’s up guys?” Rafe asked, putting up an innocent facade. He used his golf club to stop your walking, pressing it to the box of beers in Pope’s hand. “Hey how much for one of those beers?”
Pope turned to the side, trying to push past. “They’re not for sale.”
Rafe made a tutting sound. “Wait, wait, wait.” He stopped Pope as he tried to pass, forcing the two of you to stay there. Topper was standing directly in front of you, creating a barrier of sorts across the pathway. “You can just give us one, then, right?”
You wanted to snap at him. Wanted to ridicule him, ask him if he knew what not for sale meant. You were scared though, and you knew it wouldn’t help you or Pope standing up to him like that.
“Or you can order one like everybody else,” Pope replied, again trying to push past.
Rafe was rougher this time, ignoring Pope’s struggles and shoving him back. The coil of fear in your gut tightened. “Listen. Wait, wait, wait, you’re not listening to me. Um…” he gestured with his hands. “You’ve got so many bro, and we’ve got nothing.”
“Got nothing man,” Topper chimed in.
You scowled. “They’re not ours, they’re already paid for.”
Rafe looked at you, surprised you spoke, and then all of his attention was on you. You regretted even speaking, because his attention was like a guillotine, one wrong movement and the blade would fall.
“Oh, already paid for?” Rafe asked. “Knowing you Pogues, you probably stole them, right?”
Before you could stop him he was in front of you, his golf club snagging at the plastic bags in your hands as he pulled. Everything fell to the floor, and you heard the distinct sound of glass shattering.
“What the hell Rafe?!” You cried. “You owe us for that!”
He laughed, getting all up in your space. “Oh I owe you do I? I don’t owe you shit, Sweetheart.” He grabbed your chin, his fingers forcefully curling around your skin.
“Hey, get off her!” Pope yelled, grabbing Rafe’s shirt and yanking him back. You were grateful for the space, rubbing your jaw as the fear weighed you down, down, down.
Rafe spun around, “don’t fucking touch me you Pogue.”
“Come on man,” Topper said from his other side. They had him surrounded. “We just want a beer.” He made a lunge for it. “Just give us one of these.”
Topper and Pope were full on wrestling with the box now, and the fear was in your throat, especially when Rafe joined in, tripping Pope up and making him fall to the floor with a slam, rolling over a few times.
You gasped, going to him, but Rafe got there first. He had a bruise on his head, looking red and scratched. He scrambled upright, a hatred kindling in his eyes as he threw a punch. Rafe was ready though, avoiding it easily and using his golf club to slam into your friend's stomach. When he was bent over Rafe slammed it down again, Pope crumpling to the floor.
You couldn’t watch it anymore. As he raised his club again you moved forward, shoving him to the side. You only managed to move him because he wasn’t expecting it, and even Topper looked surprised, doing nothing to stop you because really, how much damage can a girl do?
You planted yourself in front of Pope, and when Rafe, laughing in disbelief, walked up to you, you were ready. You swung your fist but it was in poor form, Rafe catching your wrist mid-movement. His grip was tight enough to make you wince.
“Getting involved?” Rafe asked you, moving forward until you were chest to chest. “That’s cute.” His voice was low and mocking. “I thought you were smarter than that.”
You yanked your arm back. That was the second time he’d grabbed you and your skin felt dirty, his fingerprints crawling all over you. Rafe just seemed amused, a cruel delight in his eyes. There was no fear in his expression and why would there be? He was a Kook. He had his friend right behind him ready to defend him if needed. His real competitor was still on the floor, pain immobilising him. No, there was no fear in his expression, only a sick satisfaction of knowing exactly how much control he had over this situation.
Pope gave a groan, attempting to pull himself upright but Rafe didn’t even glance at him. His focus was zeroed on you, the intensity of his gaze making your stomach churn. “What’s it like, being a Pogue? Being powerless?”
You opened your mouth to snap at him, to say something humiliating and knock his ego down a few inches, anything to stand up against him. Rafe seemed to know you too well though, grabbing your jaw in a bruising grip, his fingers cold and rough. More threat than affection. “You’d be better off with me, y’know that?”
It wasn’t a flirtation he spoke to you – it was a threat. You could hear the danger in every word, the treacherous promise that he’d never leave you alone, that this sick game of his would only end on his terms. You could see the lines between desire and control blurring, and nauseatingly realised that Rafe’s affection for you might be even more dangerous than his fists.
You tried to jerk away, revolution surfacing inside you but Rafe only tightened his grip. “Nah, don’t do that,” he warned almost lazily. “Don’t make me hurt you too.”
You wanted to cry. You could feel the tears welling up in your eyes, threatening to fall. You’d hate to give him the satisfaction of seeing them roll down your face. All of this was a game to him, a test to see how much fear he could wring out of you. The worst part was you knew he would do it, just because he could.
Your gaze darted to Pope, your friend just managing to sit upright. Topper was standing to the side, an uneasy expression on his face. You didn’t want Rafe to escalate things any further, because you knew he would, just to prove a point. He noticed your line of sight and forcibly pulled you closer to him so he could whisper in your ear.
“You’re lucky I like you,” his breath was hot against your ear, sending shivers down your spine. An edge of cruelty laced his tone, as did delight, the same one a kid would get from playing with their toys, which was what you were to Rafe. “Otherwise you’d be right there next to him.”
Before you could answer he shoved you back, hard enough to make you stumble. A sickeningly smug smirk was on his face as he picked up two cans of beer off the ground, chucking one to Topper.
“Catch you later Sweetheart,” he called to you, going as far as sending you a wink, acting like everything had just been harmless fun, which you guessed it was to him.
You watched him saunter away, leaving a mess in his wake that he seemed to do everywhere. Except this time it was worse, because with a sickening dread you realised the next thing he’d leave a mess would be you.
And you suddenly had an answer to Pope’s earlier question. Why did you want to be a Kook so badly? It was simple, really. This whole interaction had just reinforced the feeling that you were too vulnerable, too weak. And the answer appeared from the ashes of Rafe’s destruction, a truth you guarded with your heart.
You didn’t want to be powerless.

thank you for this request! i decided to expand even more and connect it back to the actual episode i wrote about, 7x24 :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It had been about two weeks since you’d gotten out of the hospital from your last case; the bank robbery. You managed to get out with a couple of stitches and bruises. You were lucky to be alive.
The one good thing that came from the whole ordeal was the fact that you and Spencer, who was your previous academic-agent enemy, had turned into somewhat of your lover.
It started with trivia night at O’Keefe’s. The two of you decided to just pair rather than join a large team, and you kicked ass. You allowed Spencer to handle more of the academic side of trivia while you took pop culture. Quite literally, you were the only team with points.
That date went so well, that you ended up going out to dinner at the new Chinese place by Spencer’s apartment. That one went great too, and a third came along, a simple date that included Spencer taking you to an art museum.
You actually got to know Spencer, and he got to know you. Sure, you’d been team mates for years, but with suck a strong rivalry, you never got to know the man. You were both eerily alike, and things were going great. There had been no cases, Strauss gave your team a break after JJ’s boyfriend had almost died, along with you.
Spencer and you were at his place watching Doctor Who when you got a phone call. You picked it up, “Hey, Rossi.” The tv was paused and Spencer was looking at you expectantly. “Mhm.. mh- Oh my god! Oh, Rossi. That’s such a good idea. Yes, I’ll be there. I’m, uh, actually with Spencer, so I’ll pass on the message.” Spencer raised an eyebrow at you as you hung up. "Okay, don't freak out, but JJ and Will are engaged."
"What!" Spencer exclaimed with a bright smile. "Oh my god!"
"And Rossi and Will are planning for the wedding to be this Friday," You continued. "JJ doesn't know yet, so we have to keep it a secret."
"Speaking of secrets," Spencer coyly began, "Does Rossi know about, well, us?"
You chuckled, "I didn't tell him, but he knows we've been together more. Significantly more,"
"I've been thinking," Spencer said. "What if we don't keep this a secret anymore."
The only reason it was a secret in the first place was because the team would freak out if they knew you were going out. "I don't think now's the best time to tell them. We don't want to steal JJ's thunder." you frowned.
"No, no!" Spencer quickly shook his head. He grabbed both your hands, rubbing them with his thumbs. "Do you want to be my date to their wedding?"
Your heart raced at his words, and you felt the heat rise to your cheeks. "Yeah, Spence. I'd love to be your date." You smiled brightly.
The wedding was only three days away, and you were quick to go out with Penelope to buy a dress. You wanted something elegant that wouldn't take away from JJ, so you decided on a flowey, burgundy-maroon dress. It was formal, but nothing too glamorous. The whole time, Penelope kept rambling about how since she and Kevin were no more, the two of you could be girl-dates. You casually agreed, not wanting to give up Spencer and your cover yet.
You'd asked Spencer if he wanted to see your outfit on Thursday, but he wanted it to be a surprise. So, with Pen, you both did each other's hair, makeup, and got ready. You arrived together at the Rossi mansion to make everything less conspicuous.
"Oh my god!" Penelope whisper yelled. "Kevin has a date--a date!" She grabbed you and dragged you to Emily and Morgan in a panic. "He brought a date, and I didn't bring a boy date, oh my god I look like an idiot!"
"Pen, you don't look like an idiot." You rubbed her arm softly. "He's the real idiot for moving on so damn fast."
Emily nodded, "And you look so gorgeous, I bet he can't help but think about you. Play it cool."
Penelope took a large sip of her drink. "I'm- I'm gonna go, go somewhere, uh, somewhere he's not."
"Hi, Penelope!" Beth, Hotch's new girlfriend, said cheerfully as she walked up.
"Hey, hi," Penelope quickly walked off.
Beth gave a soft laugh, "Hello everybody."
You smiled and pulled her into a hug, "Ex problems, don't mind her. Hi Beth, and hi Hotch. You both look great."
"Says you! You look absolutely stunning! That is so your color." Beth smiled as she took your hand to spin you around lightly.
The three of you said hello to Jack as well. As the group began to disperse, you quickly spotted Rossi. You made your way over to him, a smile on his face. Rossi was like a father to you. Growing up under his help and guidance, he was more than just a mentor. "Oh, honey. Look at you, you look so grown up."
"Dave, I've been grown up for a lot of years now." You laughed as he kissed your cheek. "Have you seen Spencer by chance?"
"Not yet," Rossi replied. He raised an eyebrow at you, studying your face. "You two are together, aren't you?"
A look of panic crossed your features. "Shh!" You quickly hushed, looking around to see if anyone noticed. When they didn't you turned back to him. "We've been going out on dates, hanging out. That sort of thing. We aren't.. boyfriend-girlfriend."
"I'm happy for you two," Rossi smiled. "You two make a good pair, especially now that you aren't planning each other's murders."
"Who was murdered?"
You turned around to see Spencer standing behind you. His eyes went wide when he saw you. The way you turned, bright eyed and graceful, it made his heart leap in his chest, especially when you looked so ethereal.
Spencer breathed your name softly, looking to Rossi. You gave a small nod, letting him know that Rossi knew. He walked over, giving you a small hug to secretly press a kiss into your hair. The two of you hadn't really kissed yet, but you knew it would happen soon.
"You're an angel," Spencer softly spoke, caressing your cheek as you smiled.
"You look amazing, too." You replied.
Rossi and Spencer gave each other a quick hello before he excused himself to go reveal to JJ that this was her wedding night. It only took a few minutes and JJ ran up to you. You hugged her before she could say anything.
"You knew?" Her voice cracked, but you knew it was from joy.
"We all did," You smiled. "Hey, while you and Will get ready, let Spence watch over Henry."
JJ's eyebrows furrowed as she watched Spencer nod quickly, giving your shoulder a squeeze with the sweetest smile she'd ever seen him give someone. "Uh-"
"Don't worry about it," You shook your head. "This is your night." When you saw JJ was about to ask again, you filled her in. "Going out on dates, not dating."
She just smiled, holding up her dress. "This is it. I wanted to ask you, actually, if you wanted to be my maid of honor? Help me get ready?"
Your eyes filled with tears, "Oh, Jayge. It would be my absolute honor." You hugged her again tightly, leading her upstairs with her mom.
It didn't take long until the ceremony began. You were already at the end of the isle, watching Spencer do a magic trick with the ring with Henry. You giggled, Spencer's eyes meeting yours as he smiled back to you.
JJ was the most beautiful bride you'd ever seen. She came up to the front and you hugged her, taking her flowers from her and standing next to Spencer and Penelope. As the ceremony went on, you found yourself tearing up. Weddings always made you cry. Spencer took notice, taking your hand and pulling you against his chest as he rubbed your arm. The team was too busy watching JJ and Will to notice.
The dancing was the best part. Penelope pulled you to the dance floor before Spencer even had a chance. You happily slow danced with her, then Derek, who stole you away. From there, Hotch had a dance with you, and then Rossi. Finally, at your favorite slow song, Spencer approached.
"Dave, would you mind?" He softly asked.
"It would be my pleasure." Dave passed you off to Spencer with one hand as Spencer slowly pulled you into his arms. If you took closer notice, you'd see him go to Strauss and begin to dance.
"Hi," You whispered, one hand in his as his other rested on your waist. Your free hand was on his shoulder. The two of you began to sway to the music.
"Hi," He echoed, giving you the softest look you'd ever gotten. "I missed you. I didn't even get a chance to dance with you."
You softly giggled, "Well, now it's yours. All yours, Spence." You leaned in closer, "You're the only one I wanted to dance with."
The position changed, both of Spencer's hands were on your waist as you wrapped your arms around his neck. This was much more intimate. "You're the only one I want, too." The double meaning made your stomach twist in the best way.
As the two of you danced, your teammates began to finally notice. "Oh my god," Derek mumbled. "Those two dumb geniuses finally got together."
"Actually, they're just going on dates," JJ corrected as she swayed with Will.
Emily smirked, "Not for long by the looks of it."
"They make such a sweet couple," Beth cooed.
Penelope gasped, "Oh my sweet baby Jesus, I took her away from him all night!"
"I'm sure he doesn't mind." Hotch smiled, actually smiled, as they all watched you lean your head on his shoulder, one of his hands coming up to the middle your back to splay out, almost protectively, holding you closer.
"I think I hear some more wedding bells in our future." Derek smiled.

Author’s Note: You are now entering angst town, please buckle your seatbelts and try to enjoy the ride. Jokes aside, GUYS. This chapter…is the most angsty thing I’ve ever written. I’m excited and nervous, and everything in between. There’s a lot going on in this chapter and I just hope to Eywa that I’ve written it in a way that flows and is easy to follow. I’ve had this idea brewing for months, it feels. Now…this shit was over 20,000 words long. That is a personal record and I will not be subjecting you guys to such a monstrosity. Therefore, this is part one of (at the moment) three. I apologise in advance for the cliffhanger, hehe. Also, welcome to my brain, because idk how I came up with this shit.
Synopsis: You didn’t foresee this, Ralak kept you in the dark for the sake of you and your baby’s safety. But now the time has come, it’s all too overwhelming for you to process.
<- Previous-> Next
Ralak never shared more than he needed to when it came to his duties with Tonowari. No matter how much you vowed to keep it confidential. He’s a man of few words, but when it came to his business he kept them fewer.
As much as you knew, his trips inland consisted of hunting and gathering bigger game that most warriors struggled to handle.
There's a few times you can count on one hand that he's come home a little more worn down. Each time you cursed Tonowari under your breath as you helped your mate unwind. You’d insist on knowing what the olo’eyktan had him doing to be so spent and why he had not entirely fulfilled his promise to lighten Ralak of his duties since the mating.
Ralak would be quick to shut you down in the most gentle way despite feeling irritable and sombre. It was always something along the lines of, ‘it keeps you safe, and that is my duty’, and that he’ll ‘discuss it when the time comes’.
It seems the time has come.
Another gloomy night, rain and thunder tear through the sky. These storms are more frequent in this season, as it’s Ewyas way of keeping the balance with the freshwater and seawater ratio for the mangroves.
But tonight it’s torrential. You’re in full bloom, ready to step into your new chapter of motherhood at any moment. The babe sits low in your womb and you’re swollen from what feels like head to toe. The rain isn’t helping with the soreness in your joints.
Ralak is seated next to the crackling firepit, stirring the bubbling stew with one hand and mindlessly rubbing your swollen ankles with the other. Meanwhile you lay snuggled in bed, wrapped comfortably in the thick shawl as you listen to the pitter-patter. It’s peaceful, despite the dull ache in your lower back. Maybe the rain isn’t so bad, after all.
Ta-toom!
The low-pitched sound of the war horn has Ralak's full attention, shredding him of whatever serenity he had in his being. Moving hastily, he stands and darts over to the marui door, slipping into his gear and fixing his largest spear on his back.
The scene unfolding before your eyes is a rare one. You’d only seen him in full gear on the day you first laid eyes on him. The day you arrived here in Awa’atlu. And it brings a sinking feeling to your stomach.
“Ralak… what was that?” You ask nervously.
You watch him aggressively tighten the strap of his tstalsena [knife sheathe; carrier] and chuck a bucket of water in the fire—killing the flame. A precautionary measure. He knows the time has come. He hears your voice but he also hears Tonowari's...
'When the horn sounds… you come. And that…is an order.'
In his head, he’s going through an array of possible responses but there’s simply no time for any of them. Using the frame of the bed to pull yourself up, you slowly come to your feet and waddle towards him.
“Ralak. What is going on?” You ask a little louder, a hand gripping his wrist.
Turning to face you, his hands fly to support your stomach as he looks you deeply in the eyes. Then he kisses you with purpose. Pressing his lips into yours like it would be the last time, forcing himself to pull away to briefly glance down at his unborn.
It catches you by surprise, leaving you looking up at him open mouthed. Now you’re really scared. It feels like he’s being plucked away from your fingers and there’s nothing you can do about it. “Ralak—”
“I will explain when I am back. All of it.” He already sounds out of breath, fixing the shawl over your shoulders. “You stay here. Stay warm. Do not leave. Do not answer to anyone. Understand?”
Your forehead wrinkles as you try to process this all.
Don’t answer to anyone? To whom? Why did he put out the fire? Why is he in full gear? What the fuck is going on right now? He said he’d be back…right?
“Y/n.” He booms your name, yet his tone remains steady and calm. “Understand?”
You nod hurriedly, “Yes. Yes.”
“I will be back soon.” He fixes your shawl a last time before stepping back and bolting through the door.
You follow behind him, keeping the marui flap open to watch him click for his skimwing. He makes the bond and mounts the beast hastily, and is airborne soaring towards the mainland at full tilt.
Befuddled, you waddle back inside, your back slamming into the marui stilt as you huff and puff to catch your breath. You nervously check the stew, and see that it’s almost done. The glowing charcoal should be enough to finish it off, so you opt to leave it covered and fidget with the prrsmung [baby carrier] you've weaving for the past couple days.
Anything to keep you busy.
——
Ralak effortlessly dismounts his tsurak, letting it glide past him in the water as he climbs up to the communal pod. This is a gathering place for important meetings and announcements to the clan. He watches as others assemble under the larger, woven marui, drenched with the water of the sea and sky. It’s clear that this was a signal for the warriors of the clan, from the elite, to the former. The young and the old.
Even Zu’té is present, standing lone far off in the corner.
War horn in hand, the olo’eyktan makes his presence known as he stands on the highest part of the pod. His mate, the tsahìk, stands next to him with her chest high and their children next to her.
Jake and Neytiri, along with Lo’ak and Neteyam, group together behind them at the back of the pod, observing the unfolding scene. The warriors begin to chant, defensively positioned with their tongues on display. They’re all armed and ready to protect their own from whatever the impending threat is. Ralak takes his place next to Tonowari, standing tall and still. He observes the uproar before him, his mask of indifference fixed tightly to his face.
“Mawey. Mawey. [Calm. Calm.]” Ronal speaks loudly over the heavy rain, hands splayed out in front of her.
But it makes no difference.
The uproar is growing even louder than the downpour. It was rare to hear this particular horn. It’s been years, ten, to be exact. And those who know exactly what it means are up in arms. Ralak knew this day would soon come, but he was hoping to Eywa that it would be after the birth of his son. Tonowari lets loose a throaty ‘gwah’, driving the butt of his spear into the ground. The crowd hushes down into a dead silence, acknowledging their leader.
“Warriors of Awa’atlu. I summon you for good reason. Ten years have passed and it is time to meet with the ash people once more.” Tonowari begins, only for the younger warriors to mumble among themselves, some of who are unaware of who the ash people are.
“Tìfnu! [silence!]” Ralak snaps through his teeth, “…the olo’eyktan speaks.” Tonowari nods to Ralak.
“The treaty has ended. We meet with them far inland to discuss the terms of a new treaty.” Tonowari’s eyes bounce among the sea of na’vi. “It will be no easy or short journey. We must make the trek by foot. Tonight.”
A few male na’vi are unable to keep their excitement to a minimum and siren a few calls, smacking their strakes together. Neytiri snakes her arm around Jake's upper bicep, tucked under his wing. Neteyam and Lo’ak listen intently, their heads tilted down as they grip their bows firmly.
“Not all will come. I have chosen a few to be at my side.” Tonowari glances at Ralak, and then the Sullys before continuing, “The rest must stay and protect the clan if needed.”
Ronal interjects, speaking of the ash na’vi and their horrid way of living—from their occasionally cannibalistic diet to their view of Eywa and the balance. She further reminds the people of the treaty, and that its tenets include immunity from their ‘hunting practices’ in exchange for a resource only attainable on the reef. The treaty is valid for a decade and then the terms are subject to negotiation based on the two tribe’s needs. She commences it by announcing the names of those who have been chosen by Tonowari.
“I need you by my side, Ralak.”
It was a direct order, and Ralak knows that. He knows that no matter what he says, the olo’eyktan’s order must be obeyed. But it doesn’t mean he won’t try.
“She is due any day now. You know that.” Ralak speaks crystal clear, stating exactly what his concerns are.
He doesn’t want to leave you alone, especially so heavy and full with his firstborn, who will come at any moment. Every bone in his body is telling him it’s the wrong move. But Tonowari glances at his own wife who is swollen with his fourth child.
“I know. I know, Tak. But we must do what we need. For the people.”
Ralak holds a stare with his superior—his father figure. He’s gritting his teeth to keep himself together, to keep his composure. To keep his thoughts just as his thoughts. The two communicate through facial expressions, and a quick tilt to Tonowari’s head has Ralak looking away in frustration.
It’s final.
“No.” Jake butts in, sharp and quick with his disapproval. “He gave me his word.”
Alas, a moment where father and son in law are in favour of the same thing.
“You have the sky people and we have the ash people. They demand his (Ralak’s) presence. If we fail in this, we will be at war. He comes with us.” Tonowari is stern with his tone, leaving no room for an argument.
“Ma’ Jake.” Neytiri chimes in, fright evident in her voice. She is tired of the war.
As a last resort, Ralak’s gaze shifts over to Zu’té. He knew Zu’té would also be chosen despite his...'retirement'. He was undoubtedly one of the best warriors the clan has ever had, wielding great strength and skill. Zu’té returns the stare, crossing his arms over his chest as he cocks a brow. Their brothership had strengthened after Ralak sought help.
Jake notices this, and shakes his head with his hands on his hips. “Nope. No. Who is that guy anyways?”
“My brother.”
“His brother.”
The two taller na’vi speak at once.
“Since when do you have a—You know what? I don’t care. Okay? You? I trust. Him? Not so much. I’d rather my boys stay with her.” Jake says sternly, glancing at Zu’té. “No offence, bud.”
“Good thing I care not for your opinion, koaktan [old man].”
“Zu’té.” Ralak whispers harshly, throwing a glare at his sibling.
“Look, if you got a problem—”
“What about tuk?” Neytiri cuts her mate short, tugging at his arm to remind him of who is watching their youngest daughter.
“Then they take turns or somethin’, I’m not havin’ one baby girl watched and not the other.”
“Toruk makto.” Tonowari lays a heavy hand on the former olo’eyktan's shoulder, drawing him away to break the tension. “They cannot step foot on our land with the treaty. She will be safe. Trust me…” Their voices drown out from the pounding downpour.
As they go back and forth, Ralak begins to process what Tonowari said.
‘They demand his presence’.
Tonowari had made this meeting the topic of conversation over the past few weeks, preparing him for this. But he never mentioned anything about them demanding his attendance in particular. The last meeting with the ash people happened when Ralak was a very young warrior, long before his iknimaya.
Back then, Tonowari had a different warrior at his side—a different right hand. She was strong and well known for being patient with her students. It was a frequent story at family dinner when Tonowari and Ronal took Ralak under their wing. And as Ralak became Tonowari's right hand man, he was thrusted into enforcing the tenets of the treaty, going inland with Tonowari to uphold the clan's part.
Ralak has only caught a glimpse of them once after delivering the resource to the agreed spot. He had just started these excursions with Tonowari, and his curiosity got the best of him. He looked behind him for just a moment, and caught the sight of a curvy, grey woman hastily gathering and stuffing everything into a satchel of some sort.
Her stripes were a deep, ashy blue, and her skin seemed almost scale-like. She was rid of any bioluminescence, as if the light within her was gone, and her hair was matted with what looked like burgundy clay. Tonowari then seized the back of Ralak’s neck and shoved him along, advising that he never looks.
“It is decided. Neteyam, Lo’ak and Zu’té stay.” Tonowari announces as he and Jake rejoin the group, looking at those who are left—Tonowari, Neytiri and Ralak. “We leave soon, make your arrangements.”
Ralak knew his last few words were directed to him. With that, Ralak strides towards Zu’té. “I know what I am asking of you, Zu’té—”
“I will do this for you.” Zu’té turns to face Ralak, who’s undeniably uneasy and concerned.
“Protect her.”
“You protect her. Get in and get out of there, baby brother.” Zu’té speaks, extending his hand out to Ralak. Ralak nods firmly. He’s right, your safety, along with the rest of the clan’s, depends on how this all plays out.
“Oe irayo si ngaru [I give thanks to you].” Ralak's hand meets Zu’té’s forearm with a smack. They tug back and forth a bit, silently wishing each other luck on their own endeavours before setting off on their skimwings.
They arrive, walking with haste along the beach towards the stairs to Ralak’s marui pod in the pouring rain.
“That’s...interesting.” Zu’té makes a comment about the railings for the stairs.
“She has a hard time without it.” Ralak responds, stopping at the bottom step, coming to the quick realisation that this man will essentially be replacing him for the next few eclipses. “She may need help using them.”
Zu’té nods, understanding what he really means. “Do not fret, brother. I will take care of your mate.”
Ralak releases a shaky breath as they make their way to the patio, finding shelter from the rain.
“Wait here.” Ralak speaks with his back turned, “I must speak with her first.”
——
A torturous hour has passed, and you’ve burned circles into your marui floor from pacing so much. He’s taking longer than you’d expected, and worry is really starting to set in now.
What’s going on? What did that sound mean? Why did he leave in such a rush? With all his gear, too?
You gnaw at the calloused piece of skin on your thumb, keeping a warm comforting hand on your bump to keep your kicking babe calm. Regardless, he continues doing somersaults in your womb.
Fuck it.
You rush towards the marui door where your gear hangs, and fight with the strap of your chest piece to slip it on you. It won’t fasten and it’s simply too tight to fit your body right now, but you continue to grapple with the stupid strap with shaky hands.
“Tanhì.” Ralak’s voice is rough and he sounds winded. “What are you doing?” He rushes over to you and quickly removes the piece off your chest.
“Ralak—oh, thank Eywa.” Your voice is shaky, but thick with relief. “I’m sorry, I just got s-so worried.”
“We must speak. Time is going.” Ralak carefully ushers you over to the bed, and assists you in sitting down, holding your swollen belly along the way. He takes note of his active child, feeling his little kicks and pokes. He comforts his young with a few strokes to your stomach. “Shh-shh, little one. Alright.”
He knows this whole ordeal must be stressing you both, and he’s really regretting not telling you all of this sooner.
“What do you mean?” You ask, urgency thick in your voice.
Ralaks demeanour is nothing short of solemn, tensed jaw and tightened lips. It seems serious, and this man is no person to jest on such matters.
"Ralak...What is happening?"
He takes a moment to reply, his gaze fixed on his hand that still lays firmly on your stomach. He then looks up at you, concern etched into his features. “It is time to speak about… my duties with Tonowari.”
You feel your heart thud against your ribcage, your eyes widen at the words. You’ve been eager to know, but now that he’s telling you, it implies that everything isn’t alright. It implies… the safety of your unborn is compromised. You nod slowly, trying to remain calm for the sake of your son.
“We reef people hold a peace treaty with another clan…” the giant begins, slipping his hand from your stomach to clasp yours tightly. “…the ash people.”
“Ash people?” Your voice is less than a whisper, tiny and croaky.
“They are a horrible people, tanhì. Truly wicked. Kawnglan [malicious; bad hearted]. Much like the sky people.” He shakes his head as he mutters the words, not even wanting to go into any more detail. He didn’t want to taint your innocence. To stress your mind. Especially now that you’re heavy with his child. “The treaty keeps them off this land. It keeps you safe.”
“Kawnglan [malicious; bad hearted].” You repeat through a gasp.
“To them, Eywa is nothing. Tsaheylu [the bond] is for control. Their diet…” Ralak catches himself, bringing his words to a halt.
“Their diet…?” Your bottom lip trembles.
Ralak just shakes his head, taking your other hand with his. “The treaty will soon end. I must go. Tonight.”
“What?!” You shout, wrenching your hands from his grasp to quickly stand up. A shooting pain sears up the side of your stomach, and your hand flies to clutch it. Ralak rushes to steady you.
“Careful, y/n.” He snaps, high strung and tense. “I will be back in a few eclipses.”
“What? No! No, no. It’s too dangerous.” You protest, gripping his wrists to stay standing.
“It is the olo’eyktan’s orders. I must.” He’s quick to respond to you.
This quietens you. Does Tonowari not know that you’re due any day? Or perhaps he doesn’t care. How could he rip your mate away from you at this time? Especially for something so…risky. You feel your fear bubble into something more hot.
Anger.
“Then I’m coming.” You announce, dropping your hands from his wrists to waddle over to your gear once more. Ralak stands in front of you, hands on your stomach to stop you.
“No. You're staying here.” Ralak orders sternly, backing you up to sit back on the bed.
“No. I’m coming. I’m safer with you.” You resist his pushes, trying to stand firm.
“You are heavy with child.” He grits his teeth, giving you another light push, “I cannot protect you there. You—agh—you are safer here.”
Ralak makes the confession, feeling like he’s failing at his duty as your mate. He shouldn’t even be leaving you, not when you're this far along. He should be by your side, tending to your every need.
“What? By myself? What if—what if something happens? What if the baby—” You’re cut short by the sound of Zu’té’s not-so-reserved entrance. He yanks the marui flap to the side, ducking under it and standing tall behind Ralak, by just a couple inches. He, too, is fully equipped with his gear and weapons.
“Brother. I can hear the war party.” Zu’té speaks with haste, keeping his eyes locked onto Ralak.
'Brother?' Your eyes snap back to Ralak, beady and full of tears. “You didn’t.”
It quickly dawns on you that Ralak had planned this out. Made these arrangements in anticipation things went south and he had no say in the matter. To ensure your safety, and the safety of your unborn by going to the greatest length of rekindling a flame that had been extinct for twelve years. Ralak has spoken casually of his brother before, but never in any great detail.
“Y/n. This is Zu’té, my brother. He will keep you safe.” Ralak speaks with shame in his voice, knowing this must be way too overwhelming for you. He hadn’t planned for it to go like this.
Zu’té finally allows his eyes to wander over to you. They widen when they get their first proper look of you, darting all over your body to take in your foreign features.
He caught a glimpse when your family first arrived in Awa’atlu, but never this close. His eyes land on your bulging stomach, lingering a second too long to make even himself a bit uncomfortable. He clears his throat and looks back at Ralak.
You look at Zu’té with anger in your eyes, and then back at Ralak as they begin to swell with hot tears. Zu’té tries to make himself smaller, feeling the thickness of the air now. He backs up into the marui flap, tempted to lift it and walk himself outside to relieve some of the pressure.
“How long did you say this would be f-for? What if I go into labour? Will you really allow another man to deliver our son?”
Zu’té quickly but silently excuses himself from the room, taking a spot on the patio with his arms crossed over his chest, pinching the bridge of his nose. ‘Oh, Toto. What have you gotten yourself into?’
Angry, you shot the words like an arrow and they pierced your mate’s chest with ease. He grimaces, as if he were actually in pain.
“I-I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I—” You sob the apology, burying your hot face into your hands.
Ralak embraces you, wrapping his large arms around your body, hugging you close and tight. He sways a little with you, humming deep in his chest. “‘ts alright. You’re okay. Take a breath. I know this is frightening.”
He understands—it is not uncommon for a navi pair to remain close during the final weeks of pregnancy. It’s an unconscious mechanism, keeping them together for the birth of their offspring. Ralak feels it just as much as you but in order to truly protect you he must go— another thing that he understands.
“You c-come back to me, o-okay?” Your breath won’t stop hitching. “Come as s-soon as y-you can.”
“I will, I will. ” He coos, pulling back enough to look down at you. “Mawey, tanhì. Strong heart. For our baby.”
You nod, lifting your head to look up at him. He sees the terror in your eyes and his heart breaks with guilt. He gently presses his forehead against yours, slowly stroking your back.
“Nga yawne lu oer, nga yawne lu oer. [I love you, I love you]” He whispers longingly as he closes the distance between your mouths.
“Nga yawne lu oer [I love you]. S-So much.” You sputter, lips trembling against his.
He kisses you with force, pressing his lips into yours until it almost hurts. You both linger there, not wanting to part ways. But you feel him pulling away, knowing there wasn’t much time left. Instinctively, cling onto him when his lips leave yours.
“Please don’t go.” You mumble into his chest, knowing that he has no choice.
“I have to, my tanhì.” He mutters as he begins to pull away before letting go completely.
You follow behind him, thumb in your mouth as you nibble at the skin, hand resting on top of your bump. You watch him call for his tsurak for a second time tonight, and look back at you for a moment. He takes in the sight of you standing next to his older brother, trying to find comfort in knowing that you’re in safe hands. Ralak gives him a nod and mounts the beast, taking off towards the war party.
Leaving you in the presence of Zu’té.
“Y/n, is it?” Zu’té asks, already knowing the answer.
It’s awkward and he doesn’t do well in these types of situations. He knows comfort is what you need right now, considering you’re now sobbing into your hands again. You’re worried sick. Literally. It’s all making you feel woozy and lightheaded.
“Listen...” He goes to rest a hand on your upper back, but he hesitates, leaving his hand to hover. He retracts it completely, allowing it to fall back to his side. He sighs, droopy ears and tensed brows. “He will return soon.”
Among all the emotions that cloud you at once, anger still remains roaring at the forefront. You find yourself turning your heel and ignoring his presence, waddling away as fast as your swollen feet will allow it.
“Leave m-me be.” You spit between hitched breaths, ensuring the flap of the marui door shuts harshly behind you.
Despite feeling sympathy for you, Zu’té stands outside, finding solace in being alone. He chooses the driest spot, and sets himself up on the patio, getting ready for the stormy night ahead.
You waddle in to bed, wrapping yourself in the thick shawl that smells like your mate, and lay next to the prrsmung [baby carrier] you still have yet to finish. Feeling defeated and empty, you lay on your side in bed as you process everything, letting silent tears crash onto your bed.
——
You’re not entirely sure at what point in the night that you drifted to sleep, but you wake up in a groggy state. Dried tears make it hard to open your eyes, and your hair sticks to your face. You look around in a daze and realise that it’s still dark outside.
The pang in your bladder keeps you awake and forces you out of bed, making you wobble to the curtain. You pull it back and are met with the sight of Zu’té sleeping propped up against the marui wall with his spear tucked to his chest.
Seeing him painfully reminds you of the heart wrenching events of last night. That even though you were hoping and praying to Eywa for it all to be a bad dream—it was all very real.
An icy cold breeze gusts by, making you shiver under your shawl and Zu’té shift in his sleep. The rain had eased off into a light, continuous drizzle some time during the night.
Your ears droop with guilt for leaving him out here in the cold, damp night. You let out a sigh and grip the railing to the marui stairs, turning your body sideways to take your first step down. The wood squeaks when it takes your weight, Ralaks usual tell tale sign that you’re sneaking out at night without his help.
It seems to work for Zu’té too because by the time you reach the second step you hear a raspy voice.
“I was told you need help with these.” Zu’té offers his hand. You let out a sigh and take his arm.
You’ll admit, his helping hand is actually helping, especially now that you’re so far along.
“Irayo [thank you].” You mutter, holding on tightly as you make your way to the bottom step. Zu’té leans against the railing, waiting for you to finish your business.
You don’t take long, most trips recently have been false alarms—just the baby pushing on your bladder because he’s so low down. As you make your way back to the stairs, your lower back begins to warm up. It radiates to your upper and inner thighs, making them ache as you walk.
It’s nothing new, aches and pains are becoming more frequent as the days pass, and the cold certainly isn’t helping. Zu’té meets you at the bottom step with an extended elbow, and you take his arm without a second thought.
It starts to rain again, hard. The temperature easily falls by a few degrees and all you want is to be inside the warmth of your bed right now. Your feet move at a quicker pace and as much as Zu’té tries to be gentle as he can, his grip tightens.
“Take your time.” He says, keeping you steady as you reach the top step.
Once you get to the door, he immediately lets go of you, stepping aside to take his spot on the patio for the remainder of the night. You pull back the marui flap but find yourself hesitating to step inside. You look over your shoulder, watching Zu’té tuck his spear close to his chest and prop himself against the wall.
“Zu’té.” You say. He looks at you, brows raised as he listens. “It’s cold out here. You should come—”
“Don’t worry about me.” He cuts you short, closing his eyes.
“I’m not.” Your words are quick and almost defensive.
Zu’té chuckles a bit, if you could even call it that. “Sounds like you are.”
You sigh, getting a little irritated. “Whatever.”
“I’ll be alright out here.” He says nonchalantly, opening his eyes to look directly at you. Your heart skips a beat and you feel the blood drain from your face. You thought Ralak was intimidating, but this guy is something else.
“Sure.” It’s awkward, but a good awkward…if that were a thing. “Night.”
“Wake me if you need me. No more sneaky shit.” He’s muttering now, ready to go back to sleep. “And get some rest.”
You hold back your laugh, a little amused by the stark difference in his personality and Ralaks. How are they brothers? Or related, even?
“Will do, sir.” You match his sarcastic tone, entering the marui and laying down in bed, hoping to Eywa that sleep will find you soon.
——
Village life continues despite Ralak and the others' absence. You wake up earlier than usual, despite the exhausting circumstances. Your baby moves, letting you know he’s awake too.
“Daddy will be home soon.” You reassure your babe, gently rubbing your stomach.
Perhaps you were also reassuring yourself.
You feel empty, and numb. And as much as you want to lay in bed all day and wait for your mates return, you still have a few things left to do before your son’s arrival.
First thing being, getting some food in your system.
You get ready, and walk outside, noticing that Zu’té is no longer in his spot.
He wakes early.
Looking out into the distance, you catch sight of Zu’té crouching next to a small flame, cooking what seems to be squid. It’s hard to be sure of what it isthe sun hasn’t fully bloomed, and though the rain has stopped it’s still a bit gloomy. You make your way over to him, taking extra care when going down the stairs.
“Morning.” You say nonchalantly.
Zu’té’s ears spring up and he looks behind him—behind you—directly at the stairs. His brows lower and he sighs quickly, knowing there’s no point in making the comment. He looks back at his task, turning the slightly charred squid impaled by a sharpened branch.
“You’re up early.” The giant states, back turned to you to reveal his insanely intricate tattoo.
“Same to you.” You respond, staring at his back hard enough to burn holes into it. You see some scarring and thickened skin, presumably from his days as a warrior. That much you knew because of Ralak.
“Squid. Help yourself.” Zu’té says, handing you a stick of burnt squid.
Taking it from him, you hold it in front of your face, a little baffled at how he seemingly saw nothing wrong with it.
“Hm…thanks. Looks…well done.” You try to force a smile, to no avail.
You try to take a seat next to him, struggling to keep your balance as you lower yourself to your knees. His ears lay flat and he instinctively springs to his feet, helping you sit down. He didn’t think you’d join him here.
It’s silent. Uncomfortably silent. And awkward. You keep your extremities close and your tail closer, curled up in on yourself to remain as small as you can. Although, in comparison to your mate's brother, you were tiny.
He’s not taller by much, but still taller nonetheless. It really makes you wonder how their parents looked for them to turn out this way.
Zu’té eats hastily, shovelling the squid in his mouth as if it had the ability to slither away. It makes you look back at your own serving and suddenly your nerves go haywire. You didn’t want to risk getting sick, your bedside bucket is too far away to fetch. But you didn’t want to be rude—he’d obviously woken up early to make this for you.
You take an experimental bite and fight for your life to keep a straight face. You exaggerate a nod and cover your mouth with your hand, hiding the way you're smacking away at this blubbery piece of meat.
“Mm. Mhm.” You grunt, forcing it down and clearing your throat. “It’s—uhm, it’s not—”
“I am no ‘emyu [cooker].” He says, chucking his cleared stick into the fire.
“Ahem—yeah. Yup.” You twirl the stick between your pointer finger and thumb, bringing his attention to your five fingered hand. His eyes widen a bit before quickly looking away, and you tuck them back in between your thighs.
“Thanks for breakfast.”
“Sleep well?”
You both speak at the same time, unintentionally clearing the tension in the air.
“I suppose, all things considered.” You try to speak lightheartedly. “And you? Did any part of you freeze?”
Zu’té laughs and shakes his head. “No, not quite.”
“Well, that’s good.” You say, looking out at sea to witness the sun's emergence. It casts an orange hue over the water, illuminating the ripples of the oncoming waves.
He’s watching it too.
“Your tattoo.” You speak softly, witnessing his ears flutter. “…on your back.”
“Ah. What of it?”
“What does it mean? I mean—” You stutter, still adapting to the idea of inking being a symbolic statement. “What’s the story behind that?”
The story replays in his head—the death of the spirit brothers and family. It flashes before him, as if he were in that moment again. The guilt and pain inside him is eternal, something that’s never left him since. He’s never spoken of it, not even to the person he hurt the most through it all—Ralak.
His ears pin back and his jaw tightens. He shrugs his shoulders and mutters, “Felt like it.”
“So…you’re telling me you did that, for fun?” The surprise is evident in your voice as you look at the tattoo again. His skin is raised and it spans the entirety of his upper back. “That must have been really painful. Ralak did mine and it took days.”
“Didn’t hurt.” Zu’té says, turning his body to you yet keeping his eyes on the sun. But it did. It hurt—a lot. Self inflicted pain, to symbolise the pain he inflicted on others, even if it weren’t his intention.
Maybe they are brothers. You think.
“You going to eat that?” He asks, interrupting your train of thought, pointing at your squid on a stick.
“Uhh—I’m going to pass.” You answer, offering it to him, “…sorry.”
“Again. Not a ‘emyu [cooker]” He takes it gladly, biting off a decent chunk and chewing at it unbothered with a deadpan expression.
Nevermind.
Now the silence isn’t as awkward. You choose to sit here a while longer, enjoying this moment as much as you can before coming back to reality. The reality that there may be a war brewing. That—
Ralak isn’t here.
Well, that didn’t last long.
Sadness washes over you, making your ears droop and your tail heavy. Your baby gives you a sudden, hard kick in the ribs, as if he were telling his mummy to cheer up. You uncross your legs and shift your weight to the one side, getting ready to get up and be productive.
Zu’té seems to take note of that.
“Need to get up?” He asks, chucking yet another stick into the fire.
“I got it.” You grunt, shuffling to your knees.
Zu’té lets out a displeased grumble, understanding what his brother meant when he said you have a stubborn streak. He goes to help you anyways, supporting you by the elbow.
You’re just about standing when you feel a sharp stabbing pain in your back. It makes you jolt and grab onto Zu’té, whose slight irritation instantly turns into concern.
“Y/n.”
“I’m good, I’m good.” You repeat out of breath, steadying yourself before letting go. He seemed unsure if you really were okay. “Really. Happens all the time now.”
Zu’té nods, letting go and giving you a little more space. “Alright.”
——
The meeting spot is no other than the ‘head quarters’ of the ash people. It is only on this occasion that another clan may step foot on their land and walk away with a beating heart. That is, if all goes well. Tonowari is confident, however, knowing that the resource they provide the ash people is sufficient enough to prolong the treaty for many decades to come.
It is an ore that forms deep underwater, and can only be extracted by the most skilled divers. Divers that can hold their breath for up to half an hour. The use of this ore remains unknown to the reef people, but the ash people are quick to seize it almost instantaneously at the drop off point. The ore is plentiful among the reef, renewing itself as it is harvested—the act of the great mother restoring balance as needed.
Truth be told, although the reef people are a peaceful people, it is no secret that they hold some of the strongest warriors on Pandora. They are proud of their home, and will fight to protect it at all costs. Even the ash people know this. Which is the reason for their agreement on something as laughable as a ‘peace’ treaty.
Otherwise, what’s really to stop them from annihilating the reef people and taking the ore themselves?
Ralak meets with the others—Tonowari, Jake, Neytiri, and Ronal. They all set off far inland to the place the two clans met ten years ago. The trek is long and tiresome, leaving Ronal winded and in need of a couple breaks along the way. She is, too, heavy with child, but as tsahìk, she perseveres. Tonowari had tried to convince her several times to stay home, but she wouldn’t take no for an answer.
“We are here.” Tonowari announces as the group nears the settlement of their natural enemy. It’s a rocky environment, much like the reef but with plenty of soil and clay. “Heads straight. Ignore them.”
——
Zu’té stays nearby the marui as he tends to some of Ralak’s duties, keeping an eye on you from afar. You sit comfortably on the bottom step of the marui stairs, concentrating on finishing your baby’s sling. Your fingers are a little swollen, making it more difficult to weave. Frustrated, you plop the sling to your side and bury your face into your hands.
Everything is just too overwhelming right now.
“Your technique is poor.” Zu’té’s voice booms over you.
You look up, seeing this tall man with his hands on his hips tower over you, shading you from the sun. “Excuse me? I’ll have you know that I have plenty of knowledge on—”
“This is a prrsmung [baby carrier], yes?” Zu’té picks up the sling and sits himself next to you, searching for the point in which you left off.
You watch intently, intrigued to know his next move. He carefully unravels all the wefts you’ve managed to do since sitting on this damned step.
“What are you doing? Stop!”
Zu’té sighs and demonstrates a weaving technique you’ve never seen before, entwining and knitting the fabric until it comes together in an even neater fashion. You look at him in awe, dumbstruck that he was able to do that. Ralak dislikes weaving, in fact, he loathes it.
“Try it.” He says, plucking the fabric away from itself to unravel it once more before handing it back to you. You hesitate to take it, caught off guard from his unexpected, skilled movements.
“My fingers are swollen.” You say, feeling defeated and a little embarrassed. He looks down, noticing your five-fingered hand again, not nearly surprised as last time.
“Not as big as mine.” He tries to hand you the sling again. “You got it.”
Reluctantly, you take the sling and slowly mirror his movements, replicating the technique perfectly.
“See?” Zu’té sounds pleased with himself. Looking down at the sling, it dawns on you.
“So, you’re a weaver?” You ask the question as if you had just struck gold. “Usually the women take on that role.”
“Not here, forest girl.” Zu’té defends his role proudly, “But yes, I am.”
“Nice. It is good to see that. My grandmother is a great weaver, she taught me all I know.” You begin.
For as long as your body would allow it, you and Zu’té sat on that step and wove together. You wove the sling and he went to fetch his satchel to work on a piece of his own. Though you did most of the talking, and found yourself dodging one too many snarky remarks, a bond formed on that step.
You told him about your past at hometree, your reason for seeking uturu to begin with.
The sky people.
The words wouldn’t stop flowing, especially when you got onto the topic of how you met his brother. You explained that Ralak was your karyu [teacher] and how that quickly morphed into something much more beautiful. How you broke past his walls—took off his mask of indifference.
But then that awkward silence came again. The silence that reminded you why this stranger was in your home to begin with. That he was playing watchdog because your mate had to leave your side whilst being heavily pregnant.
“I lied.” Zu’té fills the silence. It has your ears perked up and your full attention on him. Your heart picked up speed, almost expecting something bad. “About?”
“That tattoo hurt like a kalweyaveng [son of a bitch].”
His confession has you bellowing out in laughter, clutching your stomach to keep you from shaking up your baby.
“I knew it.” You finally say once you calm down from a much needed laugh. “No good comes from trying to pretend that things don’t hurt, you know.”
Little did you know these words weighed heavy on him. Heavier than you meant for them to. He falls silent, contemplating if he should say what he’s about to. The real confession. The real reason behind the tattoo.
“I killed our spirit brothers.” He blurts out, astonished by his own voice.
Did I really just say that? Shit.
“What?” You exhale, your heart now galloping in your chest.
“It was twelve years ago. I was…seventeen. Sent out to war. I had to keep Ralak out of it. I went alone…lead a group of warriors to protect the tulkun.” His voice seizes up, as if his throat were closing. He looks away, fixing his gaze to his feet. “I was still learning. I didn’t know. I didn’t know. The sky people…they slaughtered them all.”
“Hey, hey. That’s not your fault, Zu’té. You didn’t kill them. The sky people did.” You rest your hand on his back, feeling how raised and toughened the skin where his inking lay deep.
Zu’té just looks at you, eyes trembling with vulnerability. It’s the first someone outside of the family has ever told him that. It’s something that he needed to hear.
“Is that why you fled? Ralak told me you left him.”
Zu’té nods, looking away in shame once more. “I abandoned him.”
You shake your head, knowing now that Ralak has healed and no longer feels this way. “He has healed Zu’té. And now it is your turn.”
Zu’té only nods, allowing the silence to fill the space again. This time it’s needed.
Until it's broken by a familiar voice.
“Sister.” Neteyam greets you at the bottom step, throwing a smile your way, then to your stomach. “Little one.”
He’s checking on you per your fathers request. Of course he wanted to ensure you were okay, too.
“Tey.” You smile big, happy to see such a familiar, comforting face. “I thought you went.”
You reach out for the railing to pull yourself up, and both Neteyam and Zu’té go to help you get up. You side-hug Neteyam, finding comfort in your brother. It’s been a hectic night.
“No, someone’s got to watch Tuk…and you.” Neteyam chuckles. As you let go, your glances at Ralak’s brother. “Neteyam, this is Ralak’s brother. Zu’té.” You introduce the two properly.
Taught manners from a young age, Neteyam gestures ‘I see you’ to the former warrior, and he returns the sign.
“Uncle TeyTey’s got you guys for the day.” Neteyam coos at your tummy, and then offers you his arm.
“Right...Dads orders?” You ask, happy to go with him.
“Dads orders.” Neteyam nods firmly, looking at Zu’té to relay the message. Zu’té returns the nod, being present to hear your fathers concerns about the entire arrangement. Besides, it’ll give him time to hunt for something proper for dinner.
“C’mon guys!” Lo’ak shouts from the ocean, mounted on his skimwing with Tuk behind him.
“See you. Think about what I said.” You say to Zu’té, prompting him to wave goodbye. Neteyam walks you to his tsurak, helping you to get on. You had retired your tsurak for the time being, finding it hard to ride with your back pain.
“Hey Lo’. Tuk-Tuk.” You say with relief in your voice, finding comfort in the company of your family.
——
The ash people are impudent to say the least. They follow behind the five na’vi weaving their way through the growing crowd, right on their tails as they try to get a better look at them. They are particularly interested in Jake and Neytiri, seeing the forest people for the first time. But most haven’t even gotten a look at the reef people yet, despite having the agreement with them for so many decades already.
Some even dare to poke and prod, tugging at their tails and their hair to get a feel or whiff of their scents. Tonowari, Jake, Neytiri and Ralak walk in a formation that allows Ronal to be in the centre, safe guarded from any pointed fingernails or astray noses. Ralak is on edge, but one could never tell by a glance. His appearance is intimidating, a stature so tall he and Tonowari tower over the crowd.
“I do the talking.” Tonowari says discreetly as they near the entrance of the hut.
The room is made of some sort of red clay substance, seemingly burnt to a char until it has been hardened into what feels like rock. This one in particular is large, containing smaller sectioned off rooms, partitioned with thick leather curtains. It's all very bleak, rid of liveliness and colour.
As they enter the hut, two bigger ash na’vi guard the door on either side, blocking and guarding the entrance behind them. Two more ash na’vi lead the group with spears to their backs to a large curtain, and shove them towards it with a few harsh jabs to Jake’s and Ralak’s spines. Jake snaps around, throwing them a dirty look. Whilst Ralak keeps his gaze fixed to his feet. He feels deep in his gut that something isn’t right.
Whether it be here, or back home.
With each step he takes, the sense of impending doom only worsens. He has no desire to be here but he recognizes that this is what is necessary. Yet, he can’t help the way he feels. And when he finally raises his head all the pieces link together. It all makes sense.
Before them are five na’vi in total. Two women and three men. Four ash na’vi and one…reef na’vi. A female, reef na’vi. Her face is unmistakable—unforgettable. It’s been seared into his mind since he was a young boy.
And when Ralak sees it, he almost caves in on himself. His mask of indifference—of intimidation, cracks. Hell, it shatters. Into thousands of pieces, scattered at his feet. Tonowari’s previous right hand. The banished.
His karyu.

hey guys did u miss me :3 i am most likely back !!! i feel like i owe everyone an actual explanation what happened that i disappeared for a moment;
first, i was really sick and couldn’t really do a thing, and if i had the energy, i had no motivation, then i got 100$ stollen from me so i basically had a really low episode. sorry for the inactivity, i was sick for almost three weeks & had to go to doctors multiple times. there was more, but i don’t want to dump it all here, since it’s literally a fic post and those things are private so um!! yk.
either way, here comes the actual post, and then i’ll actually get to my rqs so no worries, i’m not missing anyone out! i might be just a biiiiit rusty. just a bit. i lowkey hate this i think
leon x fem!reader, of course it’s a smut, soft soft soft, soft dom!leon, lovelovelovelove, leon letting you try to ride him basically
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the last thing Leon likes is being vulnerable. well, one of the last things. he hates being seen as weak, emotional. he’s the strong person of the relationship, he can’t show his emotions right? he’s so deep into that headspace that it was almost impossible to pull him out. he always found an excuse to not let you take care of him.
you would try and suggest taking control in bed, and he always found a way to make you stop thinking about it. it’s not that Leon doesn’t trust you. he trusts his darling more than anyone else, even himself sometimes, but letting someone take control over him just.. sounds weird. to him. he’s also nervous about lying back down and letting you do the job. what if you won’t like it or something? he doesn’t want to mess up. it’s just that Leon doesn’t know what to do when he’s not taking care of someone or when he’s not being ordered around.
when he finally agreed though, he still kept his hands on your hips. not bruising, but it’s still there, large hands holding onto your hips, controlling the pace. he’s not ready to let go fully, he has to hold onto even the slightest bit of control. it brings him a peace of mind in its own way.
but you also bring a peace of mind to him, and he finds himself letting go, even if a little. the feeling of your walls surrounding his length is enough to make him go stupid. Leon has always been quick to grow pussydrunk on you. every time you squeeze around him, he thinks he might bust a nut right there at this moment. the fact you’re so beautiful doesn’t help either; he finds himself losing in the sight of you all the time, his eyes blown out, that stormy blue of his almost nonexistent with his pupils wide.
“Goddamn, your grip on me isn’t fair…” he half whines half grunts it out — it’s true, though. you don’t even have to do anything and he’s already on his knees if you need him to. only for you though — there’s no way anyone else would ever have this type of grip on him. you’re squeezing him so damn hard, he’s losing his mind. he can’t help himself — he agreed to you taking control but he finds himself thrusting his hips up, taking over the pace because your pussy just feels too good.
when you stop moving your hips, he whines. he was feeling so good, but you took it away! looking at you with blown out eyes, he pouts his lips, only for you to remind him he’s supposed to let go. he knows you want him to relax and let you take control— but he just can’t, not fully. still, he tries.
his hands hold onto the fat of your hips, lifting your hips up and down, making you bounce on him, his heavy balls slapping against your ass and making loud clapping noises echoing through the room.
“Fuckkk, your pussy’s so damn good.. can’t hold back when you’re gripping me so fucking hard, feels ‘s warm,” your slick leaks down onto his pelvis, both of your juices mixing into a mess, your sweat mingling with his. one of his hand trails up, pulling you down to wrap his lips around your breast, suckling on it as if you were about to start leaking milk. you tug on his hair, clenching around his fat cock which causes him to groan around your nipple, resulting in you arching your back. he pulls away just a bit to attach his lips to your neck, a faint grin forming on his lips every time you react to his touch. he got you too dumb on his cock for you to keep reminding him that it’s his turn to be lying down and just taking it, just as pussydrunk he is on you, and he’s planning to use it. he still keeps you on top of him but he’s thrusting in and out of you so fast you can’t quite catch up, his pillowy lips all over you making you feel dizzy. you can feel his cock starting to throb and him getting just a tiny bit bigger. he’s relentlessly hitting your sweet spot which has you mewling for him, just the way he loves. it doesn’t take long before you cream all over his thick length, your toes curling and walls pulsing with every heartbeat of yours. soon enough, Leon follows suit, thick cum bursting out into deep your guts.
when both of you cool off from the peak, you grumble about how it was supposed to be him being the submissive one for once, but he just laughs it off with a kiss on your nose before speaking with that grin of his,
“Maybe one day, sweetheart. Gotta work up for it.”

Less Lonely
Tumblr media
Characters: Jensen x Reader (wife)
Warnings: None really, just a little loneliness, but overall just a fluffy story
A/N: Just a quick short story I thought of while juggling the two series I’m writing. Y’all forgive my brain. Jumping around from story to story. 😂
This is my own work, please do not take it or copy it without my permission. Absolutely NO disrespect to Jensen or his family. I respect and adore him. This is a work of fiction and does not depict real life. I wrote it fast and edited it fast. Please overlook any errors.
Minors DNI 18+
You laid awake staring at the bedside clock. It was 4:23 am and you couldn’t sleep. Jensen was leaving in a few hours and would be gone for about a week. You knew what you signed up for when you married him 3 years ago, but this part never got any easier. When he was gone his kids still came to visit, which helped, but you still missed him. They missed him. You love his children and you’re thankful they love you too. His ex is great and was welcoming of the idea of letting them stay with you while he was gone. The three of you became a great co-parenting team. The decision for the kids to still come even with Jensen gone was ultimately left up to them. You all wanted them to be comfortable with the idea.
So, when Dee had work, or it would be Jensen’s weekend, the kids came to stay with you even with him out of town.
You rolled over on your side and stared at your husband, who was sleeping peacefully next to you. Listening to his soft snores made you smile.
He had been off work for a while so you got used to him being home. He was able to focus on things locally, so he was home every night. A twinge of guilt filled your heart when you wished he could just stay home.
Jensen is an incredible actor and loves his job. It would be unfair and unsupportive of you to make him feel guilty about leaving. So, you kept it to yourself. He knew, of course he knew. It was hard on him too. Leaving you and the kids.
You finally fell back asleep just in time for the alarm to go off. You rolled over and turned it off. Jensen stretched and pulled you close to him. He kissed the top of your head, “Good morning baby. How did you sleep?” You buried your face in his chest, “Not good, but I’ll go make coffee, you get ready.” You leaned up and kissed his lips softly. You climbed out of bed and made your way downstairs to the kitchen.
Jensen sighed and got out of bed and headed to take a shower. He knew you wouldn’t sleep well the night before he left. You never do.
About 20 minutes later Jensen came bounding down the stairs, dressed with his bag in hand. He wore a t-shirt that hugged his body in all the right places, and his jeans. You looked at him over your coffee cup and your breath hitched.
You loved looking at him, he always managed to take your breath away. He walked over to the counter and grabbed his to-go mug and filled it up. You finished drinking your coffee and walked over to the sink. Jensen came up behind you and put his arms around you, pulling you into a hug. You touched his arms. “I need to go get ready, so I can take you to the airport.”
Jensen spun you around and kissed you softly, “Okay, baby. Don’t worry, I’ll only be gone a week. Just shooting a few episodes. I’ll be home before you know it.” You looked into his green eyes, trying to hold back tears, “I know.”
You went upstairs, quickly showered and got ready. By the time you got downstairs, Jensen had his shoes on and was ready to go. You grabbed your shoes and purse and walked to the car with Jensen. He placed his bag in the back and got in the driver’s seat.
Driving towards the airport the two of you talked about your plans for the week, what he knew his shooting schedule would be, and what the plan was with the kids this weekend. Before you knew it, you were at the airport.
Jensen parked and the two of you got out. Security met you two at the car and helped escort you in. They allowed you to walk to the gate with Jensen to say goodbye. Jensen took you in his arms and held you tightly. “I love you so much, Y/N. I’ll be back before you know it. Once I’m back, you and I are going on a trip together. Just you and me.” You smiled up at your husband, “I love you too, babe, and that sounds amazing. Just what we need.” He kissed you deeply, and he pulled away and headed towards the plane.
You stood at the gate, tears streaming down your face. You felt so alone. Since you two had been married you could count on one hand how many nights you two had spent away from each other. Even when he went to film for The Boys you went with him. Since this trip was going to be shorter you two decided you would stay at home.
The drive home was very quiet. Before you left the airport you sent Jensen a text.
You: Have a safe flight, let me know when you land. I love you
Jensen: I will, baby. I love you too. Turning the phone off now, text you later. XOXO
The next few days went by quickly. You had the kids over and you kept busy. Jensen called, texted and FaceTimed when he could. You were so thankful for technology. The kids left to go back home with Dee, so you were home by yourself.
You tried to busy yourself with little things around the house. You hadn’t heard from Jensen today, so you were a little on edge. You sent him a text just to say hi.
You: Hey babe. Just wanted to say hi and I miss you. I love you, babe.
Hours passed and nothing. You started to get a little worried, but you knew sometimes his schedule was crazy.
Your phone rang and you saw Jensen’s name pop up. You smiled, “Hey babe, how’s it going?” You didn’t hear anything, so you said it again. Faint voices could be made out. You realized Jensen butt dialed you. You laughed. Before you hung up you heard Jensen’s voice, “Yeah, I need to call her and let her know. God I hope she’s okay with it. I hate leaving her for so long.” “I’m sure she’s going to understand man. She loves you and supports you.” “Yeah, she’s amazing and so good with my kids.”
You smiled and decided to hang up and send him a text.
You: Hey babe, you butt dialed me. 😀 I love you, call when you can.
Jensen: Oops, sorry baby. I’ll call in about 10 minutes if that’s okay.
You: Yep, I’ll be waiting.
About 10 minutes later your FaceTime went off and it was Jensen. You smiled and answered. “Hey babe. How’s it going?” “Hey beautiful, it’s fine. We are just about to wrap up filming. What are you doing?” “Nothing much, just trying to keep busy. Counting down the hours until I get to see you again.” You noticed Jensen’s face fell. “Babe, what’s wrong? You’re not coming home tomorrow are you?” Jensen sighed and ran his hands through his hair, “No, I have to meet with the Amazon executives tomorrow and they want me to pop in as a surprise guest at Comic Con. I won’t be home until next week. I’m so sorry baby.” You took a deep breath, “It’s okay, Jens. I understand. It’s an important part of your job. I just miss you.” “I miss you too sweetheart, more than you know.”
The two of you talked for a few more minutes before someone called Jensen back to set. “Well, darlin’ I need to get going. I’ll call you after we wrap tonight, okay?” “Okay, Jens. I love you, talk to you later today.” “I love you too, beautiful.”
When you two hung up, you let the tears fall you had been holding back. You missed Jensen so much. This was the longest you two had been apart since before you got married. After a few minutes you pulled yourself together and decided to shower, get dressed and go into town.
The drive into town was always so peaceful and beautiful. You loved driving around and just taking in the beautiful areas. You’ve lived in several places, but Texas was by far one of the most beautiful places you’ve been to.
You walked into the grocery store and grabbed a cart. With your list in hand you started to fill up your cart. Standing looking at the produce you noticed a small group of young women, maybe mid to late teens, looking at you. As you placed some items in your cart, one of them approached you. “Um, excuse me, are you married to Jensen Ackles?” You smiled at her, “Yes I am, can I help you with something?” She turned to her friends and smiled, shaking her head yes. “Would you mind taking a picture with us? We think you’re really sweet and we were so happy when Jensen met you.” “Of course I will, thank you for being so sweet.” The girls took a few pictures with you and then went on their way.
Your heart was filled with joy. This was the first time you’d been recognized without Jensen being with you. You finished your shopping and got in your car. You sent Jensen a text.
You: Hey superstar, guess who just got recognized by your fans. 😂
Jensen: That’s so sweet. I can’t wait to see the pictures. I’m sure they are uploading them now.
You: Probably. You know pretty soon I’ll be more famous than you. 😜
Jensen: You already are in my book, baby.
You: Flattery will get you everywhere, Mr. Ackles. 😘
Jensen: I’ll hold you to it, Mrs. Ackles. ♥️
You: I love you, gotta get these groceries home. Talk to you later.
Jensen: Okay, I love you too, drive safely.
You drove home and when you got home you carried the groceries in and put them away. Dee called and asked if she could bring the kids over for a while. She had some errands to run and the kids didn’t want to go. You told her to bring them over whenever she wanted to.
“Knock, knock. Y/N, we’re here.” You heard Dee call from the front door. “Hey, be out in a second.” You were in the laundry room transferring clothes from the washer to the dryer. You walked into the living room and saw Dee and the kids. She hugged you, “So Jens comes home tomorrow, right?” “Actually no, he has to meet with the Amazon execs and head to Comic Con. He called me this morning.” “Oh, that’s a bummer. He always hates last minute change of plans.” “Yeah, me too. Hopefully he’s back next week, but he has a con the following weekend.”
“Yeah, he loves going to conventions. His fans mean everything to him, so his schedule revolves around the conventions. Jensen tries to not have anything filming during those times.” “Well, thanks for watching the kiddos, I’ll be back soon, and Y/N, it’ll get easier. I promise.” You nodded and said thanks.
When Dee left the kids wanted to play outside. Jensen had just finished building them a play structure and they were so excited. You laughed when he had to try out the whole thing. He said it was to make sure it was structurally sound and safe for them, but you knew it was because he was a big kid.
You grabbed your water and sat on the porch, watching the kids play. You snapped a picture of them, a selfie of you and sent them to Jensen.
You: Enjoying this beautiful weather and missing daddy.
You hit send and put your phone down. A few minutes later Jensen sent a text back. He took a selfie and sent it to you.
Jensen: Missing ALL my babies too. God you’re so beautiful, sweetheart.
You: Thank you, and you’re not looking half bad yourself there handsome.
Jensen: 😘
You: 🥰
The afternoon went pretty quickly and before too long you were saying your goodbyes to three very tearful kids. “I promise you guys can come over again soon. I just have an early morning appointment tomorrow.” The kids gave you a hug and you hugged them back. Dee touched your arm before stepping off the porch, “Thank you for being so great with them. It really makes things so much easier, and better than I imagined.” “Of course, Dee. What kind of person would I be if I didn’t love and accept those beautiful babies? They are part of you and Jensen, and they are a huge part of his life. When I came into his life, those kids came with him.” She hugged you and smiled.
When you went back inside you started cleaning up and your phone rang. You smiled when you saw it was Jensen. “Hey babe. How are you?” “I’m good, how was your day with the kiddos?” “It was great. We had a lot of fun. Dee just left with them.” “So I wanted to talk to you about something real quick.” “Okay, what is it Jens?” “My flight leaves tomorrow to head to chat with the Amazon executives, but I’m not due at Comic Con until Saturday. How would you feel about flying out to LA and coming to visit me?”
You stood stunned for a minute. “Baby, are you still there?” “Oh yeah, sorry, yeah I’m still here Jensen.” “So, what do you think? Want to come out to LA and hang out with your husband?” “I’d love to, but are you sure that would be okay? I don’t want to be a distraction or cause problems.” “Sweetheart, it’s more than okay. You won’t be a distraction or cause problems. Besides, Eric and Jeff can’t wait to see you again. The rest of the cast too.” “Okay, yeah. I’ll come. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning, but after that I’m open to leave whenever.” “Great, I’ll book the flight and give you all the details. I can’t wait to see you. I’ve missed you!” “I’ve missed you too, Jensen. I love you baby.” “Well I better get off here. I need to get packed and rest before my flight early tomorrow morning. It leaves at 4 am. I love you honey.” “Okay, night Jens, I love you too.”
You hung up and finished cleaning up the house. The rest of the evening was uneventful. Jensen texted you with your flight information. You were leaving tomorrow at 3:30pm and would arrive in LA about 9pm. You were so excited to see him. You made sure everything was packed and ready to go before you went to sleep.
The next morning you went to your doctor’s appointment and hurried home. You did last minute checks of your bag and made sure you had everything you’d need. A week's worth of clothes, (you weren’t sure how long you were going to be gone), your toiletries, and other things you needed.
About 12:30 a car arrived to take you to the airport. You grabbed your bags and set them on the front porch and locked up the house. The driver grabbed your bags and you thanked him. You sent Jensen a text.
You: In the car now, headed to the airport. I hope your meeting went/is going well. Talk to you soon. Love you.
The drive to the airport took a little longer than anticipated due to an accident. You left in plenty of time, but you were anxious to be in Jensen’s arms. Once at the airport, you went through security and arrived at the gate with time to spare. You finally let out a breath and took a seat waiting to be called.
You looked at your phone just as a text came through.
Jensen: Hey baby. Yeah, the meeting went great. I’ll tell you all about it when I see you. Have a safe flight. I love you.
You: I can’t wait. I love you too.
A few hours later you were sitting on the plane waiting to get off. You sent Jensen a text to let him know you landed and he told you there would be a car waiting for you. Your leg bounced as you anxiously waited to get off the plane.
As you entered the terminal you looked around trying to see your driver. You didn’t notice anyone yet, so you walked towards baggage claim. Rounding the corner you looked up and saw Clif and you smiled. Then you saw Jensen with a wide grin. You instantly ran to his arms and he grabbed you into a hug. “Oh my god, Jens! I missed you so much.” You kissed him and he hugged you tightly. “I missed you too, sweetheart.” You two couldn’t stop kissing and hugging. Clif chuckled, “Come on you two, they have enough pictures.” You noticed the paparazzi was snapping picture after picture of your reunion, but you didn't care. Clif grabbed your bags as Jensen took your hand.
You were so excited to be with him again. You missed Jensen so much, and he missed you. Once in the SUV Jensen couldn’t keep his hands off of you. He kept kissing you and touching you. You giggled, “Sorry Clif.” Clif laughed, “Hey, it’s alright. I’m just glad you could make it. Lover boy here couldn’t stop talking about you.” You smiled at Jensen and he blushed.
“Hey, what can I say, I love my wife.” “I love you too, Jensen, and I missed you like crazy.” Clif pulled into the hotel Jensen was staying at, and grabbed your bags. The three of you took the elevator up to Jensen’s floor. You followed him and walked into the suite. You looked around, “Wow, this is beautiful, Jens.” Clif put your bags down and told you both he’d see you later.
When the door closed Jensen pulled you into his arms again. “I hated being away from you. I missed you so much.” He kissed you, and started working his way down your neck. “Jens, I need you baby.”
Jensen slowly laid you back on the bed and kissed down your body. Clothes were shed and the two of you spent hours exploring each other’s bodies like it was the first time. There was no rushing tonight, just fulfilling a need that was weeks in the making.
The love between you and Jensen grew stronger and deeper with every touch. He was yours and you were his.
Being in his arms after so long was exactly what your soul needed.

Sonny Carisi: Lucky To Have You
This was inspired by my rewatch of episode 19x8. Amanda was so awful to Sonny. (I’m sorry I’m not a fan of the couple.) This came out of nowhere and wrote itself in two hours. Enjoy xoxo
Warning: Anti-Amanda and anti-Rollisi content.
You plopped down on the chair across from Sonny. His gaze jumped up to you startled out of his thoughts. Sonny had become a regular at the cafe you co-owned. He first ventured in three months prior. You knew he would be trouble and not because of the gun and badge attached to his hip. No, it would be a lot worse kind.
The kind that would leave marks on your already bruised heart.
You had found him attractive as soon as he had walked in and it hadn’t taken long for his personality to make him even hotter. His sassy attitude and genuine care for others were impossible for you to fault. You had instantly formed a crush. You had flirted shamelessly as he had ordered. He was friendly but didn’t seem interested. Over the next few weeks, you found out why as you developed a semblance of a friendship. He had feelings for another girl. She was a cop that he worked with Amanda.
Under normal circumstances, you would have been able to let it go. Then he started looking to you for your opinion on the situation. He told you the nitty gritty of their interactions. You came to a quick calculated conclusion-
Amanda Rollins was totally and completely using him.
It made it so much worse that Sonny was head over heels for her. He wanted to be all in with her and raise her daughter Jesse as his own. You had delicately tried to tell him your opinion but he had transferred the blame of it not going smoothly to himself. You knew he wasn’t ready to hear it and didn’t want to.
You had been there before yourself. So, you lent him a listening ear and let yourself be placed in the friend zone. Sonny was too magnetic to ignore. He made you laugh you’d rather have that as friendship than nothing at all.
He looked so defeated in his seat staring at his sandwich instead of eating it. “You want to talk about it?” His gaze shifts up to you and he shakes his head in frustration.
“I’m just stupid,” You think he isn’t going to continue but he does. Telling you about the work trip with Amanda to pick up a suspect. The late night at the bar, the bar fight, and how it felt so good to feel like he wasn’t just a cop. He had felt a connection with Amanda as they had fought together. He had walked her back to her hotel room thinking she had felt it too. Only to find the next morning that she had slept with the bartender.
You wince sympathetically, “I’m so sorry Sonny.” You touch his forearm, trying to ignore the zaps of electricity, to comfort him. “But you are so much more than a cop.” You look back at the staff you have for the day. It is a good bunch. You redirect your gaze back to him with a bright smile. “Do you have plans for today?” He raised his eyebrow tilting his head as he assessed you.
It had been enough of an agreement. You had led him out to your car urging him into your passenger seat. You let him pick the music and rolled down the windows to enjoy the summer heat. You thought he would ask where you were going but he didn’t. You had just left the city when you finally asked, “Left or right?”
His blue eyes had shined when he directed you left. You guys drove around randomly for hours and Sonny seemed a lot happier. The two of you were talking and changing the music to songs the other had never heard of. You stopped when you realized that you had been out this way before. “Oh, hey I think I know where we are.” Sonny sat up and looked around. He realized he hadn’t been paying attention to where you guys had been going.
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah, I drove up this way a few months ago.” You glanced at him admitting softly, “It was a bad day.” Sonny didn’t know why that surprised him. Everyone has bad days. But you had always seemed like a constant ray of sunshine. Even when you got frustrated or overwhelmed you always seemed able to laugh it off and keep a smile on your face. “You know we are only a little over three hours from Niagra Falls. I almost went last time when I stopped for lunch a town over and found out where I was.”
“Why didn’t you?” You hummed softly to yourself, tilting your head back and forth in thought.
“I don’t know. I’ve never been there before and it- It just didn’t seem like a place to go when you were sad and alone.”
“Well, you’re not sad or alone right now.” You laughed clicking on your turn signal to head towards the amazing mom and papa diner you had found.
“Yeah okay,” When Sonny didn’t join in your laughter you looked back at him. “You’re not serious- you want to go to the falls today?” Your excitement couldn’t be contained and leeched into your voice. “We’ve already been driving around for almost four hours and it's almost three. We would be home so late tonight.” Sonny just kept smiling at you with a raised eyebrow. You start bouncing in your seat. “Yes, yes, yes! Okay but first, I have to take you to the place with the best breakfast food you will ever eat.”
Sonny ended up taking over driving after he reluctantly agreed that the diner was in fact the best breakfast he had ever had. The rest of the trip was just as lively. It felt like the two of you had fallen into a different level of friendship. The falls were amazing and Sonny let you linger for as long as you wanted. He snapped a few pictures on his phone making a comment about you guys coming back with his camera to take more pictures. You had to remind your over-excited heart that the two of you were just friends.
You stayed until dusk and were ushered out with the park closing. It was late and Sonny was the one who threw out the idea of getting a hotel and starting back in the morning. You agreed, texting your opener that you probably wouldn’t be in until the middle of their shift, and if it got busy to call in the college student who was begging for hours.
It was a cheap hotel that looked like it hadn’t been remodeled since the 60s but was in a safe area. He walked you to your door and thanked you for the trip. There was a lightness back in his blue eyes that made his smile seem even brighter. He was close to you, his body practically brushing yours. You could smell his cologne, rich and musky. It invaded your senses and you would blame that on losing control because Amanda Rollins was a fool and you would be damned if you were going to be one too.
You tilt into him, pressing on your toes to steal a kiss. His lips are soft and taste of coffee. You let the sensations take over you as you drop to your feet. When you finally open your eyes you see him staring at you like a puzzle he can’t figure out. You wonder if you should apologize but that simple kiss was one of the best you have ever had.
His hand cups your cheek as he slowly leans to kiss you again. You smile into the kiss and giggle giddily as he pulls back. His face still shows confusion even with his smile, “Anyone would be lucky to have you, Dominick Carisi.” His blue eyes blaze You turn opening the door. You look back and he is starting to step away- a gentleman as always.
You had always been more demanding.
You grab at his forearm and he pauses. You step back into the room letting your hand slide down until your fingers find his interlocking. Then you pull gently encouraging him forward. He follows you dotingly, the door swinging closed behind him.

Hunter x femaleJedi!reader
Series Summary: Ever since Eriadu, Clone Force 99 had been a fractured squad. Months have passed but you're finally back with the Batch but Omega is still out there and you won't stop until you find her again.
Chapter Summary: Time is against Omega and Crosshair as they finally make the move to escape
Masterlist for S1 and S2
<Previous Chapter
Genre: Friends (idiots) to Lovers (we're in the lovers stage now)
Chapter Warnings: Canon-typical violence, mentions of food and the importance of self-care, the Force and meditation works how I say it can, reader is a bit more forceful in making Hunter look after himself lol, Hemlock and Palpatine, threatening insinuations, light angst, again my interpretations of headspaces, limited use of (y/n)
Word Count: 3.7K
Author's notes: The people have spoken (it was three people but people I greatly appreciate and it was enough) so here is the third chapter too! Very much sticking with the episode plot because the main focus is on Crosshair and Omega for this one but there's still an added moment in the beginning! Enjoy and I'm excited to start chapter four!
Tumblr media
“You picking up anything?” Wrecker asked your cross-legged form that was seated by the tree at the top of Pabu.
You heaved an annoyed sigh as you sat there. “Nope. I don’t know if it’s cause I’m out of practice or if she’s really somewhere I can’t reach or both, but I can’t get a read on her.” You then sensed Wrecker’s slight unease. “What’s up?”
“Well… um… Hunter’s talking about heading out immediately.”
“Mm-hmm.” You said, shielding your eyes from the sun as you opened them to look at him. “And that’s a problem because?”
“Come on, (Y/N), we can’t just drop the kids here and leave. That’s not fair to them. Plus, Shep offered us a break and- and I- I think it would be good if we got some actual food in our systems. Supplies haven’t exactly been easy to come by when you’re travelling as much as we are.”
You had to agree with him there. You got to your feet and followed his eyes and saw Hunter disengage from a conversation with Shep and stride back to the Marauder. “And what exactly do you want me to do here?”
“Just…” He breathed heavily. “I dunno. Talk to him? Try to get him to listen? He won’t hear us out but- but your relationship is different and- and it’s not just for me, okay. Do it for him. I know things are better but…” He trailed off. “But I’m still worried about him that’s all.”
His sensitivity to the situation never failed to strike a chord with you. You patted his arm. “We’re family, Wrecker. I’d do it just for you anyway.”
Wrecker let out a soft chuckle. “Yeah, I know.”
You walked away from him towards the ship and as you stepped aboard, you saw Hunter sitting back by the navicomputer with his sight fixed firmly on the datapad. “You know, the sector isn’t going to change if you don’t look at it every two minutes.”
“I’m just making sure we have it correct and ready to go. Can you get Wrecker?” Hunter asked without looking at you yet.
“About that…” You came to stand in front of him and placed your fingers under his chin to get him to face you. “What’s this about you wanting to just leave the cadets and take off? Shep’s offering us some decent food and we could rest up before we depart.”
“We don’t have time.” He maintained.
“No one’s talking about a five-course meal. It’s a quick sit down where you can put those clones at ease about this new situation that they’re in and you take a moment to just look after yourself.”
“I don’t need-”
“Hunter, when was the last time you had something to eat that wasn’t just rations?” You interrupted sternly. The mere fact that he couldn’t answer told you that it had been far too long. “Look, we don’t know what we’re going to face out there and we all need to be at full strength and ration bars can’t always cut it. It’s not just you involved in this either. Wrecker has been at it non-stop too and he deserves a moment of respite and something that isn’t a flavourless stick and so do you.
“(Y/N)-”
“Thirty minutes. That’s all I’m asking.”
As Hunter saw the determined look in your face, he heaved a sigh, but put the datapad down. He had never wanted his tunnel-vision with this search to negatively impact the rest of you but thanks to you, he realised now that if he had insisted on leaving immediately, then that’s exactly what he’d be doing.
Taking that as your answer, you took a hold of his hands and started to pull.
“Half an hour?” Hunter double checked as he let you tug him from the chair.
“Half an hour.” You confirmed with a nod. “Then we can get going again.”
--
Omega was already on her feet and waiting by the door when Emerie opened it.
“Good morning, Omega. Come along, there is much to do today.”
Omega followed Emerie through the usual route to the testing room but as she walked in and hopped up onto the examination table, she noticed there were more troopers patrolling and there was a new kind of tension in the air. “Something’s different.” She shared her observation aloud to Emerie. “Why are there so many troopers around?”
“I’m not certain.” Emerie replied.
“You don’t know?” Omega queried, not fully understanding how Emerie could be so content not knowing about what was going on around her.
“The doctor will inform me if it’s necessary.” Emerie prepared the blood drawing equipment and took the sample from Omega.
The door opened and they both turned to see Hemlock and Nala Se enter the lab.
“Emerie, a word?” Hemlock called over.
Emerie put the sample in the tray and walked over to him.
“An unexpected guest arriving shortly. Nala Se and I will be indisposed until he departs. Oversee the lab in her absence.”
“As you wish, Doctor. I will begin testing the latest samples.”
“That is unnecessary.” Nala Se interjected. “I will see to them when I return.” She had been doing her job in keeping Omega safe and having Emerie carry out the tests jeopardised all of it.
“Dr. Karr’s quite capable of handling such matters.” Hemlock ignored the Kaminoan’s objections and faced Emerie. “See it done.” His attentions were then commandeered when Scorch walked through the doors.
“Sir.”
“Is everything in order?”
“Affirmative. The shuttle has left the orbital station and the coordinated were transmitted.”
Nala Se stepped away from Hemlock to walk over to Omega as she saw Emerie gather the samples and leave the lab. She pretended to examine the records on the screen as she quietly addressed the young girl, “Omega…  listen carefully. If Emerie tests your sample, you will be in danger. You must flee this facility before it is too late.”
“Wait. Is that why you’ve been destroying my sample?” Omega whispered back.
“Yes.” Nala Se replied. “Project-” But Hemlock’s voice interrupted her.
“Nala Se, come along. Our guest is arriving.”
“Go to the lab, retrieve my datapad and use it to escape. Sneak aboard a shuttle and flee.” Nala Se instructed before she left with Hemlock.
--
Omega made her way to the lab, her nerves growing as she saw the vast number of patrolling troopers, but she couldn’t second guess now, Nala Se made it clear she had to go, and she could make it work, she just needed the datapad and Crosshair.
She entered the lab and saw that Emerie had already placed all the samples, including hers into the centrifuge.
“Did you need something, Omega?” Emerie asked.
“I… Hemlock said there’s a guest arriving.” She released an awkward chuckle. “Who is it?”
“It’s best not to ask questions.” Emerie replied briskly. “See to your tasks for the day.” When Omega made no move to leave, she properly looked at her. “Are you feeling well? Forget your assignments and get some rest.”
“Okay.” Omega said lightly before she made her way over to Nala Se’s datapad but Emerie’s voice stopped her from taking it.
“Omega, I can handle things here. Go. I’ll check on you later.” Emerie insisted.
Double checking that Emerie’s attention was elsewhere again, Omega grabbed the datapad and ran out of the lab.
--
“We have quadrupled our objectives in record time.” Hemlock informed Emperor Palpatine as he led him to the vault. “The exotic matter facilities have expanded, providing alteration and testing of much larger assets.”
“I have need of such grand designs. However, that is not the reason why I am here today.”
“Of course. Project Necromancer.” With that, Hemlock activated the door to the vault.
--
Omega made her way to the detention level and covertly ran to the cell where her brother was lying on the cell cot. “Crosshair.” She whispered.
“What are you doing here?” Crosshair asked irritably.
“Escaping. And you’re coming with me.”
Crosshair reluctantly sat up and regarded the girl with scepticism. “You found a weak point?”
“Not exactly. I’m kinda improvising.”
“Is that some kind of a joke?”
“I’ll explain later. Just get the guards’ attention.”
Crosshair sighed, “That’s not a plan.”
Omega released a disgruntled scoff, and she did not want to entertain this argument, “Just distract him.” She insisted.
His longing for freedom trumped his displeasure at the fact that this kid seemed to lack any sort of proper strategic thinking. So, he got to his feet and walked towards the bars of his cell and addressed the two troopers standing down the corridor. “Guards!”
Omega waited round the corner and watched as one of them approached Crosshair’s door.
“Unlock this cell.” Crosshair demanded.
“What did you say?”
“I was giving you an order.”
The guard scoffed and called back to his partner, “This clone thinks he outranks us.”
“I do.” Crosshair replied simply as he saw the other guard coming to join. “And I’ll take your blaster too.”
“Oh yeah?” The trooper challenged with a mocking laugh. “How are you gonna do that?”
Whilst this was happening, Omega used the opening to place her datapad into the now unmanned centre console and programmed Crosshair’s cell door to unlock.
“You’ll see.” Crosshair didn’t have to wait long until his door opened, and he instantly overpowered the trooper. He stole his blaster and used his body as a shield from the oncoming stun blasts from the second stormtrooper whilst he fired his own stun blast in return and they both fell the ground.
“Nice work.” Omega praised as he put them back behind the cell door.
“Didn’t have much choice.” Crosshair griped as he picked up the second blaster.
“You’re out of the cell, aren’t you?” Omega countered smugly as she removed the datapad and caught the blaster he tossed to her before they both started running.
“Well? Start talking.” Crosshair said as he waited for her to get the next door open.
“I told you. We’re escaping.” Omega repeated.
“Why now? What’s changed?”
“Nala Se said I had to. And I wasn’t gonna leave without you.”
Crosshair let that sink in for a moment. It wasn’t a sentiment he was used to hearing or experiencing, and whilst he held responsibility for that, it was still strange to here coming from someone who had no true reason to have any loyalty to him.
“She told me to use her datapad to access the base and find a shuttle. We just need to get to a hangar.” Omega continued explaining as she finally got the door open.
They took cover behind the hallway’s centre console as a squadron of stormtrooper passed and they overheard part of their musings.
“We’re not supposed to be on patrol until midwatch.”
“Commander’s orders. All hands-on deck until the Emperor departs.”
“The Emperor’s here?” Crosshair hissed.
“What? I didn’t know.” Omega said defensively as she looked through the manifest of available shuttles.
Crosshair released another exasperated sigh. “Another reason why this was not the day to wing an escape.”
“Thanks for the reminder, but I think we’re past that point.” It was then that Omega noticed the tremor in his hand as he held the blaster. “Your hand’s getting worse, isn’t it?”
“I- It’s fine.” Crosshair said with a dismissive grunt as he willed it to stop shaking.
Not having time to push the matter yet, Omega turned her focus back to the screen but what she saw was not good. “Uh oh.”
“What?”
She took the datapad out. “All the shuttles have been grounded, except the Emperor’s. We’ll have to steal it.”
The sheer simplicity in which she said that had him realising that his brothers may have entertained one too many crazy ideas in his absence. “Impossible. It will be too well-guarded, even for me.”
Omega pondered through any possible alternatives in her head and then she came to the realisation with a gasp. “Wait. I know a shuttle we can use. It crash-landed outside the perimeter back when I first came here.”
“How does a crashed shuttle help us?”
“If the comms are still functioning, we can contact the others.”
He could concede that that part of this ill-conceived ‘plan’ wasn’t totally far-fetched. “And how do we get outside?”
“Follow me.”
--
“As you can see, the specimens are well-guarded to ensure they remain viable for testing. However, with more time, and additional resources, I am confident that we will have a successful M-count replication.” Hemlock revealed to the cloaked figure.
“There is nothing of greater importance to secure the future of this Empire. Whatever is needed to accomplish this goal, you will have it.”
“Thank you, Emperor.” Hemlock made to show him out, but he only turned to face him. His yellow eyes the only thing visible underneath the cloak as they regarded him with curiosity but also with a hint of disappointment.
Palpatine did not follow the scientist immediately. “I did here word, however, one such specimen escaped your grasp.” He commented. “One that perhaps could offer you more than those that are already under your… observations.”
Hemlock’s posture stiffened and he massaged the palm of his gloved hand. “It was an unfortunate error but one I am hoping to rectify.”
Palpatine only silently nodded before he started to walk out.
--
As they entered the kennels, they didn’t give the droid much time to react. A few blasts from their blasters and he was down.
“Now what?” Crosshair asked.
“We’ll use the kennel chute.” Omega said as she readied the controls. “It leads outside, but it’s protected by a timed ray shield. We’ll have to move fast or we’ll be trapped.”
Crosshair regarded the aggressive barking hounds uneasily. “Oh, I can hardly wait.”
“We can use Batcher’s empty kennel. Be ready.” She opened the chute, but the door whirred open.
“Omega.”
Crosshair cocked his blaster towards the woman that walked in.
“Don’t!” Omega placed her hand on his arm to get him to lower it.
Crosshair didn’t listen, he kept his sights trained on her.
“You should go back to your room.” Emerie advised as she advanced towards them.
“You mean her cell.” Crosshair snapped.
“You’re not thinking clearly. Neither of you.” Emerie said. “But it’s not too late. Come with me and no one needs to know about this.”
“I can’t do that.” Omega responded firmly.
“Omega-”
“I spent most of my life confined on Kamino. I won’t be trapped here too.” She looked imploringly at the older clone. “You’re a clone like us, Emerie. Help us.”
Crosshair could tell Omega’s words weren’t doing enough to convince her and he set his blaster to stun.
“Escape is not possible, Omega. This is for your own good.” She pressed the security alarm, but the stun shot hit her immediately afterwards.
The dreaded sound of the comms steady chirp told Crosshair he’d reacted a split second too late. “We have to go.”
Omega activated the first kennel door and the two of them ran down the chute.
--
Hemlock watched the Emperor’s shuttle depart with a growing sense of pride as the possibility of becoming the scientific minister felt closer than it ever had before.
“Sir.”
Hemlock half turned his head to the sound of Scorch’s voice. “What is it?” He asked tightly.
“Omega and CT-9904 are missing.”
He turned around fully. “Missing?” He glanced over at Nala Se and though her face didn’t give much away, he was sure she was involved somehow.
“An alarm was just triggered in the lurca kennels.”
“Seal it off.” He ordered.
--
An alarm blared through the tunnel and the shields throughout the chut started to turn back on.
“The shield’s not supposed to be active yet.” Omega said in distress.
“They know we’re in here.” Crosshair realised before he increased his speed. “Move faster!”
Together, they both managed to dive out of the exit just as the last shield activated.
Crosshair peered into the dark forest ahead. “What direction is the crashed shuttle?”
“Not sure.” Omega replied.
“Oh, great.” Crosshair muttered impatiently before he looked up to the sound of a shuttle leaving the base. “We’ll follow the flight path.”
--
“I’m picking up something.” Omega said as she looked at the datapad whilst they both came to a stop. “I think it could be the ship. That way.” She pointed ahead but the cry of a vicious snarl grabbed both their attention.
“Oh, good. The killer hounds.” Crosshair said wryly.
They started their run again but with Omega being so focused on the screen, she tumbled over a tree root.
Crosshair picked up the loose datapad and helped the girl up to her feet.
“Thanks.” Omega said but then she heard a new kind of animal growl, and she peered past Crosshair to see a giant bear-like creature standing tall on two legs. “Crosshair.” She said nervously.
Crosshair pointed his blaster, but he knew by the sheer size of the creature that there wouldn’t be much he could do.
Suddenly, the hounds came running in and rather than come after them, they charged at the creature, and they gratefully took the opportunity to keep running to the downed shuttle.
--
They reached the shuttle and Omega got to work on powering it up whilst Crosshair kept watch.
--
Having been dismissed by Dr. Hemlock when she’d come too, Emerie made her way back to the lab to do as he instructed and monitor things there. The monotonous click of the centrifuge blended into the background as she worked.
--
“Anything?” Crosshair asked.
Omega hit the control panel in sheer frustration. “It’s not working!” She let out a defeated sigh. “Comms are completely dead.” She put the datapad into a supply pack she’d found, grabbed her blaster, and put the pack on her back and came out to join Crosshair.
“They’re coming.” Crosshair said as he heard the low sound of engines approaching and he signalled to Omega to take cover to the side of the shuttle.
“I’m sorry. I thought this would work.” Omega
He may have been doubtful in the beginning, but it was clear that what he originally thought was careless thinking was actually rooted in that out-of-the-box thinking that had gotten him and his brother’s their success during the war and time thereafter. She had done something just by finding a way outside. Now, he could bring in his own experience. “You got us this far. And we’re not done yet. Did they teach plan 72?”
“Mm-hmm. Tech had me memorize all the plans.”
Despite the situation, he couldn’t help the small but fond smile that graced his face upon hearing that. “Of course he did.”
The two of them got in position as the shuttle arrived.
--
He looked at his hand with anger and infuriation as his aim was off with the first shot and all he could do was retreat into the treeline whilst they fired back at him.
With Crosshair’s distraction giving the opening she needed, Omega made her way to one of the cables the troopers had used to descend. But before she could get up, a stormtrooper cocked his blaster.
“Stand down.”
She awkwardly turned and waved to the soldier. “Hello.”
“I said, stand down.” He repeated forcefully.
Omega watched with shock as a lurca hound came snarling out from a bush and took out the trooper and when he got to his feet and aimed at the hound, she got her own stun blast away. “Batcher?” The answering happy bark told her the answer. “Stay close.” With that, Batcher went to take care of the troopers and she hooked onto the cable and ascended.
--
With the hound Omega had befriended making her appearance, Crosshair was able to take out more guards than he thought he would’ve been able to.
If things had gone according to plan, he would be able to join Omega in the shuttle in a few minutes. He just needed to bide his time.
--
Sure enough, as he took out one other trooper, the shuttle started to move wildly out of position and as he took cover from an onslaught of blaster fire, the shuttle fired down on the remaining troopers, and he hastily made his way across the rocks to reach the opening ship doors.
--
Omega steadied the shuttle and came down the lift to provide Crosshair with cover fire as he came in board and headed up to the pilot’s chair.
--
Crosshair reached the seat and chucked the pilot out the hatch.
--
Hearing the doors getting ready to shut, Omega took cover and whistled for Batcher. “Batcher, come!”
When the dog was safely inside, Crosshair shut the doors and got the ship in the air.
--
Emerie had gotten so used to the monotonous drone of the centrifuge that it had become mere background noise. So much so that she almost missed the new rhythmic beeping that chimed as a new sample clicked into position. Emerie stood up and investigated the screen and the realisation with what she saw, stunned her.
--
The troopers had only been half the problem. Despite having escaped the ground assault, they were now trying to out fly V-wing shuttles and the bases’ laser cannons and one of them managed to hit the shuttle.
“They’re locking onto us!” Omega shouted as alarms blared throughout the shuttle. “I can’t shake them! Systems are failing.”
--
“I want that ship neutralized.” Hemlock insisted heatedly as he watched map in main control room.
“Stop! Don’t shoot them down!” Emerie urged as she entered the room.
“What?” Hemlock snapped.
“The clone’s sample supported a positive M-count transfer with no degradation from the specimen.”
“CT-9904 was ruled out long ago.” Hemlock argued.
“Not him. It’s Omega.” Emerie revealed, showing him the results.
Hemlock studied the datapad and saw what she was talking about. “Call them off!” He directed Scorch.
“But, sir, they’re escaping.” Scorch tried to protest.
“Stand down!” Hemlock insisted. “We need her alive.”
--
Not looking to question the reason as to why they peeled off, Crosshair shouted to Omega. “Now!”
Omega launched the ship into hyperspace.
--
Hemlock watched the ship disappear off the map.
“They’ve jumped.” Scorch confirmed.
Hemlock released a short sigh. “A minor setback. I have the full resources of the Empire at my disposal. We will find her. And with her gone, she will lead us to someone else who will prove most useful to our endeavours.” With that, he exited the room.

dreaming of conversations we'll have tomorrow
hi there! i have finally finished this one-shot i've been working on for way too many months it's inspired by apartment by modern baseball (you can listen before without spoilers!) i hope you like it! :)
“Dude! Are you almost ready or what?” Finnick yelled up the stairs of their shared house.
“Just putting my shoes on,” Peeta mumbled in response.
Peeta wasn’t really in the mood to go out. He had a hellish week: a twenty-page midterm paper, a three-hour exam, and a painting for his art elective (which his professor swore wouldn’t take him more than three hours to complete, but his perfectionist tendencies made it take closer to ten) all due within a span of two days. Peeta would’ve preferred to just crash on the couch and catch up on the last few weeks of Abbott Elementary episodes he’d missed, but Finnick was invited to a party at Annie’s apartment. Finnick had gone on a handful of dates with Annie, and he wanted to impress her, so he insisted Peeta and their friends come to help him do so.
“And who else are you forcing to come?” Peeta asked Finnick when he was first told of his new Friday night plans.
“Thresh and Marvel,” Finnick replied, mentioning two of their roommates, “Thresh is the brauns, Marvel’s the brains, and you’re the funny guy. A perfect group to show me off.”
“So what are you?”
“The triple threat, obviously. Throw in a dash of charm and a whole lotta good looks and here I am,” Finnick finished with his award-winning smile.
“Interesting. Sounds to me like you don’t really need us then.”
“And I’m buying all of your guys’ beer, so you can’t complain. Peeta let out a relenting sigh, and Finnick responded with a triumphant slap on the back.
Now, with exhaustion looming over him, Peeta really wished he had the personality of a dead slug. Then, maybe, he’d get to stay home like their roommate Cato, who couldn’t be trusted to help anyone make any sort of positive introduction.
Despite Peeta’s need for sleep, the walk to the party wasn’t too brutal. The crisp autumn air felt nice on his skin, and the sky was so clear that the stars helped illuminate their path.
“Look alive, boys,” Finnick jeered as they approached the apartment, the top floor of a run-down duplex. He shot Peeta a quick look that indicated he was doing anything but. Peeta scrubbed his hand down his face to wipe away the tiredness etched into his features.

Steps of a Midnight Waltz - Halloween Special
Jenna Ortega x Reader
youtube
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: When Jenna invites you to an exclusive masquerade hosted by one of her famous friends, you expect a night of glamour and mystery—but not like this. Surrounded by ghostly guests and forced to relive a stranger’s tragic love story, the two of you must uncover the truth before the clock strikes midnight…or risk being trapped in their world forever.
Word Count: 4.5k
The soft hum of the television filled the living room, casting flickers of light across the walls. You and Jenna lay comfortably on the couch, limbs entangled in a way that felt second nature after three years together. It was one of those rare nights where neither of you had obligations pulling you away, and you’d settled into the rhythm of your lazy evening routine. You’d made dinner, and she’d attempted to surprise you with dessert—though the slightly charred edges hinted she might have gotten distracted.
She handed you a dish with a sheepish grin. “Hey, it’s the thought that counts.”
“Definitely,” you smirked, pulling her close for a quick kiss. “But we might need some whipped cream to help with the taste.”
Jenna rolled her eyes, swatting your arm before resting her head against your shoulder, exhaling a contented sigh. This felt like everything you’d worked hard for—a cozy house you could call home, where she could crash after long filming days, away from prying eyes. She even had her own set of keys, a secret most people didn’t know. Just her way of slipping in and out unnoticed, something that amazed you considering her popularity. Sure, fan mail sometimes found its way to your doorstep, and the paparazzi occasionally loitered around your neighborhood, but inside these walls, it was just you and Jenna.
The two of you had just finished watching the latest episode of some murder mystery show when Jenna’s phone buzzed. She glanced at it, her brows furrowing slightly as she sat up.
“What’s up?” you asked, shifting so you could look over her shoulder.
“It’s Percy,” she murmured, showing you the message. Percy Hynes White—a close friend from the Wednesday set. “He’s inviting us to some Halloween masquerade party in the hills.”
Your eyebrows rose. “A masquerade party? Isn’t that a little… theatrical?”
She chuckled, tilting her head in thought. “Percy always did have a flair for the dramatic. He says it’s exclusive, just a handful of his close friends and some others from the industry.”
You took a breath, considering. Halloween was always a fun excuse to get dressed up, but something about the invitation felt… different. “Exclusive in what way?”
Jenna shrugged, but her eyes gleamed with intrigue. “He says it’ll be unforgettable, that he pulled some strings to make it really immersive. Maybe it’s some kind of performance thing?”
You glanced at the message again, Percy’s words echoing in your mind: Dress to impress, but don’t look too closely under the mask.
Jenna leaned into you, her eyes sparking with a hint of mischief. “Come on, it could be fun. Plus, it’s been a while since we did something different for Halloween.”
You grinned, nudging her shoulder. “Alright, but if this turns into some horror-movie experience, I’m blaming you.”
Halloween night came swiftly as you both got ready rather quickly, ready for whatever the night brought you both. Jenna appeared from her room, adjusting her mask delicately as she walked toward you. She was dressed in a midnight blue gown that shimmered under the low lights, hugging her form and flowing elegantly with each step. Her dark hair was swept back, revealing a pair of sparkling earrings, and the way her mask accentuated her eyes left you completely mesmerized. The faint smirk tugging at the corners of her lips told you she noticed your reaction, and she lingered just a bit longer, letting you drink in every detail.
“Close your mouth,” she teased, her voice a soft whisper as she reached for your hand, the warmth of her fingers pulling you out of your daze.
You couldn’t help but smile, shaking your head slightly. “You’re one to talk.” You glanced down at yourself, taking in your outfit—a well-tailored ensemble that hit the balance between formal and comfortable, a layered look that was sharp and understated, yet eye-catching in its simplicity. Jenna’s eyes swept over you with an approving look that made your pulse quicken.
“Shall we?” you asked, offering your arm with a grin that felt a little too wide, a little too proud.
She took it, her hand light on your forearm as she gave a playful nod. “Lead the way.”
With one last look at each other, you stepped out together, ready to face whatever the night had in store.
The drive through the winding hills of Los Angeles felt endless, the road narrowing as you ventured further from the city lights. Jenna was next to you, her fingers laced with yours, a mixture of excitement and curiosity glinting in her eyes. The invitation had given you an address, but no further instructions, and the closer you got, the quieter it became, the distant sounds of the city fading into an eerie silence. Even the moon seemed hidden behind a veil of clouds, casting a dim, otherworldly glow over the road.
When you finally pulled up to the entrance of a sprawling estate, there was no doubt this was the place. Large iron gates, illuminated by the soft glow of lanterns, opened before you, as if expecting your arrival. Beyond the gates, a grand mansion loomed, its silhouette stark against the night sky, ivy curling around the dark stone facade. It looked like something from another era, timeless and haunting.
Jenna squeezed your hand, her eyes gleaming beneath her delicate mask. You could feel her anticipation as you reached the grand staircase leading to the entrance, the sound of distant music drifting through the thick wooden doors. A sense of excitement buzzed between you, but something else lingered in the air—an unspoken feeling of unease.
“Ready?” she asked, glancing up at you with a grin that held a hint of mischief.
You returned the smile, adjusting your own mask. “As ready as I’ll ever be.”
The doors opened with a low creak, and you stepped into a dimly lit hall, chandeliers casting warm golden light across the marble floors. The scent of old wood, wax, and something faintly floral hung in the air, inviting yet oddly unfamiliar. Around you, figures in elaborate costumes and masks mingled, their faces hidden beneath intricate designs of lace and feathers, jewels catching the light.
Jenna looped her arm through yours, her eyes roaming the room. “This is amazing,” she whispered, her gaze taking in the rich details—the polished wood paneling, the velvet curtains, the shadows that seemed to flicker at the edge of the room, as if watching.
You wandered through the room together, and as you moved, you noticed the guests were unusually quiet, their voices barely above a murmur. Some stood in groups, exchanging hushed words, while others seemed lost in their own world, dancing to the hauntingly beautiful melody echoing through the halls. It felt like stepping into another time, where the past lingered just beneath the surface.
Percy spotted you from across the room and made his way over, dressed in a black suit with a silver mask that covered half his face. His eyes glinted with a knowing look as he greeted Jenna, pulling her into a quick hug before turning to you.
“You made it,” he said, his tone almost too casual, as though he’d expected you all along. He gave a slight nod to Jenna, his voice low. “I’m glad you could come. This place has… a certain charm, doesn’t it?”
You nodded, glancing around. “It feels like we’ve walked into a dream—or maybe a ghost story.”
Percy chuckled, the sound soft and oddly distant. “You’re not far off. This place is full of memories. Just be careful what you wish for.” He gave you both a cryptic smile before blending back into the crowd.
You exchanged a look with Jenna, a shiver running down your spine at his words. There was something strange about the way he’d spoken, like he was in on a secret you weren’t privy to. But before you could dwell on it, Jenna’s hand tugged on yours, leading you toward the center of the room where a small group had begun to dance, swaying to the ethereal tune filling the hall.
As you began to waltz, Jenna’s eyes sparkled beneath her mask. She leaned in, her voice barely a whisper. “Feels like we’re in another world, doesn’t it?”
You nodded, but as you spun her, your gaze drifted across the room, and that’s when you noticed something peculiar—no one else seemed to blink. The other guests moved with a rhythmic grace, their faces hidden, yet they held an unsettling stillness, their eyes unblinking, expressions frozen. An eerie sensation crept over you as you watched a masked couple dance, their movements smooth but unnervingly mechanical, like they were moving on a loop.
“Jenna,” you whispered, pulling her a bit closer, “does anything feel… off to you?”
She tilted her head, her brows knitting together as she looked around. “Now that you mention it…” Her eyes narrowed, observing the room with newfound caution.
Just then, the music shifted, the tempo quickened, almost imperceptibly at first, but then it grew, urging the dancers around you to move faster. There was something unnatural about the pace, a feverish intensity that set your instincts on edge.
You shared a look with Jenna, an unspoken agreement passing between you both. Just as the other dancers’ movements grew frenzied, you stepped away from the floor, hand in hand, leaving the strange whirl of figures behind. With a steadying breath, you guided her toward the lavish refreshment table, hoping a drink might shake the creeping unease that had settled over the room. Jenna’s grip tightened on your hand, her gaze darting to yours with a spark of concern.
“Maybe we should—”
The air grew cold, and a collective whisper echoed through the hall, sending chills down your spine. The dancers froze mid-movement, their heads turning in unison to face you, eyes gleaming with a strange, unnatural light.
And then, almost as one, they resumed their dance, spinning and twirling. The sound of footsteps echoed behind you, and you turned to see Percy standing at a distance, watching with that same unsettling smile.
“What’s going on here?” you asked, your voice coming out as a strained whisper.
He shrugged, his eyes gleaming beneath his mask. “Sometimes, the past doesn’t stay buried. Sometimes, it comes back for those who walk in its shadow.”
A cold shiver ran down your spine as his words sank in. You glanced at Jenna, catching the flicker of unease in her eyes, and a silent understanding passed between you. Something was very wrong here, and you were caught in the middle of it.
You wandered through the crowd, each new step revealing odd inconsistencies that tugged at your instincts. The clock on the grand wall, gilded and majestic, ticked backward in quiet defiance. The ballroom mirrors reflected only fragments of the room, casting eerie angles of the scene but omitting people altogether. Occasionally, the live band’s music warped and echoed, like it was playing from a distant place, the sound bending just enough to send shivers up your spine.
As you both sipped your drinks, Jenna leaned in close, her voice hushed. “Have you noticed?” She nodded toward the guests around you. They seemed lost in conversation, but the same words repeated over and over, as if the entire scene was caught in a loop.
Before you could respond, a woman in an elegant mask leaned close, her voice soft but brimming with urgency. “It’s almost midnight,” she whispered. “You’ll want to take your places.” And before you could question her, she melted back into the crowd, leaving you and Jenna alone with her cryptic warning.
The masked host's voice boomed across the room, drawing every eye to the center of the grand ballroom. With a flourish, he held up a delicate glass, commanding the attention of his guests. "Ladies and gentlemen, tonight, you are not merely observers—you are participants! The midnight waltz shall reenact a tale of love and loss, bound by fate and preserved through time."
The crowd murmured, intrigued, and the host’s gaze lingered on you and Jenna. He gestured toward the both of you, his eyes glinting beneath his ornate mask. "Our main players, our lovers—these two shall carry the heart of tonight’s story."
You exchanged a glance with Jenna, a strange sense of connection sparking between you. Before either of you could respond, attendants appeared, offering you each an item. Jenna was handed a simple, elegant locket—a piece that felt surprisingly familiar, almost as though it was meant to be hers. For you, it was a worn leather-bound journal, its edges frayed and soft with age.
“These,” the host continued, “are yours alone, to aid in your journey. Cherish them well.”
The moment your fingers brushed the journal, a strange, unexplainable warmth spread through your hand, as though it held secrets woven through time. Jenna’s fingers traced the locket, her eyes glancing up at you, a look of bewilderment on her face that mirrored your own.
As you returned to the center of the ballroom, the host’s voice echoed through the room. “Embrace the story, become the lovers, and perhaps—just perhaps—you shall unravel the truth bound within.” He lifted his glass high, and the crowd followed suit, toasting to the night’s mystery.
In your search for answers, you managed to slip away to a secluded area, whispering urgently about the strange inconsistencies you’d both noticed.
“This is way too weird,” Jenna mutters, glancing back at the eerily synchronized dancers. “None of this feels right.”
You nod, gripping her hand tightly as you both approach the grand entry doors. “Let’s just leave,” you whisper.
As you push against the door, an unsettling realization hits you—your hands don’t even make contact. It’s as if an invisible force is keeping you at bay. You try again, pushing harder, pulling, but nothing works.
“What’s going on?” Jenna’s voice shakes slightly, and you can see the worry flickering in her eyes.
You shake your head, trying to stay calm. “It’s like… there’s a barrier.”
A heavy silence falls as the panic begins to rise, your hearts racing as you look at each other, silently questioning your next move. But then, footsteps echo behind you.
“Going somewhere?” a voice asks lightly. You turn to see Percy smiling, his gaze too knowing, his presence almost smug.
You glare at him, frustration and fear mingling. “What the hell is going on, Percy?” you demand, stepping forward. “What kind of game is this?”
“Game?” He raises an eyebrow, his smile growing wider. Before your eyes, his features change—his eyes darkening, his skin taking on an unnatural pallor as he shifts into a figure far older, with a sinister, regal presence.
You feel a chill run down your spine as he adjusts his collar, seeming unfazed by your reaction. “Convincing, wasn’t it?” he says, that smirk never leaving his face.
Jenna steps closer to you, her fingers tightening around yours. “We’re not playing your game,” she says, her voice cold, steady.
“Oh, but you are.” He gestures to the ballroom, where guests begin removing their masks, revealing twisted, decaying faces beneath. Ghostly forms, eyes vacant and flesh rotting, continue their dances as if unaware of their grotesque states.
“These guests… they’ve been here for centuries, driven by jealousy. This masquerade began as a prank, a cruel game played on two lovers who were envied for their devotion,” he explains. “But it went too far, ending in their deaths. In their rage, the lovers cursed this place, trapping their tormentors and any unfortunate soul who happens upon it.”
Jenna glances at you, dread dawning in her eyes as the host leans closer, a chilling satisfaction in his voice. “To escape, you must reenact their story. Relive their romance, their tragedy. There are three phases—two guided by the artifacts and memories left behind, but the final phase… well, that’s where all the others have failed. The midnight waltz—their final dance together. Complete it, and the curse is broken.”
You swallow, barely able to find your voice. “And if we don’t…?”
He smiles, stepping back as the ghastly figures drift around you. “Then you become part of the masquerade, like all the others, decaying one slow night at a time.”
The realization weighs heavily on you both as he fades back into the shadows, leaving you surrounded by cursed souls and an impossible task ahead.
The grotesque figures around you move in mechanical loops, whispering fragments of conversations that echo as if from another time. The midnight waltz, a doomed love, the need to break free—it all blurs together, and you can feel the walls of the ballroom closing in, the air heavy with the weight of centuries-old despair.
Jenna’s fingers tighten around yours, grounding you. “We’re getting out of here,” she says, her voice low but unwavering. The strength in her tone cuts through the haze of fear clouding your mind, giving you a renewed sense of determination.
You make your way back to the main hall, hand in hand. The first artifact is on display: a delicate, tarnished locket resting on an antique table, its chain coiled like a serpent around the pendant. You can almost feel its significance, the weight of the story woven into its metal.
Jenna picks it up, turning it over in her hands. “There’s something inscribed here,” she murmurs, squinting at the faint etchings. Together, you decipher the words: Bound beyond time, bound beyond death.
You exchange a glance, both feeling the eerie chill of those words sink in. “It must have symbolized their bond,” you say, voice barely above a whisper. “Their promise to each other.”
Jenna’s brow furrows as she looks at you, a flicker of hesitation crossing her face. “Are you saying we… we have to recreate that?”
You nod slowly, realizing that this isn’t just about physical tokens—it’s about re-enacting the emotions, the vows, the essence of the couple’s love. “It’s not forever,” you say, holding her gaze. “But maybe… just for tonight, we need to follow the steps.”
Taking a deep breath, she slips the locket around her neck. The moment it clasps, a strange warmth fills the room, and for a brief moment, the faded grandeur of the ballroom sharpens, as if it’s been restored to its former glory. The guests around you pause, their eyes glinting with a ghostly awareness, and the haunting music softens into a gentle melody.
You reach for Jenna’s hand, repeating the locket’s words together, Bound beyond time, bound beyond death. It’s a strange, almost surreal moment, and as the words leave your lips, you’re hit with a wave of emotions—flashes of memories that don’t belong to you. A hidden garden under moonlight, whispered promises, stolen glances. It’s the love story of two people who loved deeply and died too soon.
The vision fades, and you’re left breathless, the reality of the ballroom returning, though now the locket is glowing faintly around Jenna’s neck, signaling the completion of the first phase.
“One down,” Jenna murmurs, a shaky but determined smile on her lips.
But as you glance around, you realize the ballroom’s cursed guests have taken notice, their ghostly forms edging closer, their hollow eyes fixed on the two of you with a mixture of envy and hunger. The first phase has stirred something within them, a reminder of the love and life they can no longer possess.
With a renewed urgency, you turn to the next artifact: a worn leather-bound journal, resting on a pedestal in the corner of the room. Its cover is cracked and faded, as though it’s been handled countless times, and you can almost feel the weight of its history as you pick it up. The journal, you sense, holds the heart of the couple’s tragedy.
Jenna leans over your shoulder as you open the book, its yellowed pages filled with fragments of thoughts, scrawled notes, and images. It’s a scattered, chaotic testament to their love and the jealousy that surrounded it. Some words are scratched out violently, others rewritten with fervor. Over and over, certain phrases leap out: betrayal, envy, forever.
Your fingers trace the words, absorbing the story that unfolds. The lovers had found solace in each other, hidden from prying eyes, but were ultimately torn apart by the envy of those who could not bear their happiness. And in their final moments, they had written their last vows in this journal, hoping their love would survive, even if they could not.
Jenna’s fingers skim a passage near the end. In the midnight waltz, we found each other anew, becoming one, bound beyond envy, beyond fear. She looks at you, a sense of understanding in her gaze. “The waltz was their key… their way of defying the curse.”
You nod, feeling the intensity of the moment settle over you. “If we can complete it, maybe… maybe it’ll break the curse.”
But before you can speak further, a low whisper fills the air. The host has reappeared, his face cracked and ghastly, a ghostly grin stretching across his face. “Close,” he murmurs, his voice an eerie, mocking echo. “But remember, the waltz must be flawless. Fail… and you become one of us.”
The masked guests begin to unmask fully, revealing hollow, decaying faces, their eyes dark and empty. You realize they were just like you, attempting to escape and failing, cursed to haunt the ballroom forever.
Jenna’s hand tightens around yours, her jaw set with determination. “We’re not failing.”
Together, you take to the center of the ballroom. The final phase is upon you, and the music swells, filling the room with a haunting melody. You hold each other, positioning yourselves to begin the midnight waltz, the final act in the story.
As you sway to the rhythm, following the clues in the journal, the air grows thick, almost tangible with the memories of the lovers’ final moments. Each step is a reenactment of their love, each turn a testament to their devotion. It’s as though you and Jenna are slipping into their roles completely, becoming extensions of their story, living their emotions, their desperation to break free.
The guests murmur, the clock strikes closer to midnight, and you both quicken your pace. The music guides you, but something feels… wrong. The room seems to close in, and you can sense the host watching, waiting for a single mistake.
As the final chime rings out, you find yourself faltering, a sudden sense of dread washing over you. Jenna stumbles, but you catch her, your arms wrapping around her, steadying her.
“This isn’t their ending,” you say, voice firm, defiant. “We’re not bound to their fate.”
In a moment of clarity, you realize the way to break the curse isn’t to follow their tragic path but to reject it. Instead of finishing the dance, you pull away from Jenna, breaking the final pose. She follows suit, her eyes wide with understanding.
“No!” the host’s voice echoes, his face contorted with rage. The guests begin to wail, their figures blurring and fading as the room shakes, the walls cracking, the ceiling starting to crumble.
Hand in hand, you and Jenna turn and run toward the grand doors, which swing open before you. You burst out into the cold night air, the mansion collapsing behind you. The sounds of wailing and cries echo as the walls crumble into dust, the ballroom fading into nothingness.
Breathing heavily, you and Jenna look at each other, the weight of what just happened sinking in. You reach the car, slipping inside, Jenna’s hand clutching yours tightly. She’s shaking slightly, but her eyes hold a glint of relief, mixed with disbelief.
As you drive away, leaving the cursed estate in the rearview mirror, you glance at each other, a silent understanding passing between you. The mansion is gone, but a part of you wonders if the shadows of that night will ever fully leave.
When you glance back one final time, you see faint silhouettes in the windows, figures waving. You can’t tell if it’s a farewell or a warning, but as the city lights come into view, you turn your gaze forward, leaving the midnight waltz—and its ghosts—behind.
The weight of the night settled over you as you drove back toward the city, silence stretching between you and Jenna, punctuated only by the quiet hum of the car engine. The experience had left an indelible mark, a lingering tension woven into every stolen glance and shared breath.
Jenna finally broke the silence, her voice barely above a whisper. “Do you think… we actually got out?”
You hesitated, the question hanging heavy in the air. “I don’t know,” you admitted, your fingers instinctively tightening around the wheel. “But we’re here. Together. That has to mean something, right?”
She nodded slowly, though the uncertainty lingered in her eyes. For a while, neither of you spoke, each lost in the events that had unfolded in that cursed ballroom.
The familiar city lights gradually began to replace the eerie glow of the mansion, grounding you both back into the present. The reality of life outside those doors returned with the first streetlight that passed over you, illuminating Jenna’s face with a warmth and familiarity that finally eased some of the tension in your chest.
As you pulled into your driveway, the house stood as a reassuring sight—its warm lights a stark contrast to the haunting shadows you’d left behind. When the car came to a stop, you exhaled, feeling the grip of that midnight world finally starting to release you.
Jenna unclasped her seatbelt and turned to you, a small, weary smile tugging at her lips. “Let’s go inside.”
Together, you climbed out of the car, and as you stepped through the doorway, you felt the final remnants of the night’s dread fall away, replaced by a familiar comfort. You locked the door behind you, the soft click echoing in the quiet house.
She reached for your hand, pulling you gently toward the living room. Settling back onto the couch, limbs entwined, it was as though nothing had changed at all—as though the night’s horrors had merely been a dream.
But as Jenna’s fingers laced through yours, her head resting against your shoulder, you could feel the strength in her grip, the weight of everything you’d both just survived. And despite the questions that lingered, there was a peace that began to settle between you, a sense that, whatever shadows may still linger, they couldn’t touch you here.
As you drifted into the comfort of each other’s arms, the clock on the wall chimed softly in the distance, marking midnight. For a moment, a chill swept through the room, a final reminder of the midnight world you’d escaped.
But then, Jenna’s fingers traced a small circle on your palm, grounding you both. The warmth of her touch dissolved any lingering doubts, and you let yourself sink into the quiet safety of the present, leaving the echoes of that haunted waltz to fade into memory.

The conference room in the homicide division of the seventh precinct was filled with the smells of coffee and fresh pastries. It was early. Too early, considering they’d all been there until well after midnight interrogating witnesses.
The food was Bertrand’s way of making up for the fact that no one had gotten much sleep the night before, but everyone still turned up bright and early, ready to work.
“So, she does have a history of stalking.” Liam flipped the file across the table to Flynn.
Detective O’Malley reached for the manila folder and flipped it open. “Who’d she stalk?”
“Clarence Coleman. An app developer. The police reports are in there. He was granted a restraining order. I’ve left a message for him to contact us. See if he’s heard from her lately.”
Flynn skimmed the information in front of him. “This was three years ago.”
Liam nodded. “It’s likely that she stopped harassing Cole when she started sleeping with Trent.”
There was a knock on the conference room door and Rashad entered, carrying a laptop. “There are no security cameras at the vic’s apartment complex, but I found a late model Nissan Pathfinder registered to the suspect and scrubbed video footage from nearby traffic cameras.” He placed the laptop on the table and flipped it around for the detectives to see.
Liam leaned forward to get a closer look. “Is that our suspect?”
“Yes,” Rashad confirmed, “Three blocks away from our vic’s house, heading that direction, fifteen minutes before the 911 call. And this….” He swiped to another image. “…is her ten minutes after the call heading the other direction through the same intersection.”
“We need more than that for an arrest warrant,” Flynn said as he zoomed in, looking for any evidence of blood visible in the photo, but it was too grainy. “It’s not illegal to be in the vicinity.”
Liam pushed away from the table. “Let’s get back over to the apartment complex and show her photo to the neighbors. Maybe someone will remember seeing her that morning.”
An hour later, he was seated in a small but elegant dining room as Stella Haltom served him coffee. Flynn was canvassing other neighbors, ones they hadn’t been able to reach yesterday.
Liam had tried to decline, but Stella was insistent.
“You’re very young for a homicide detective, aren’t you?”
“Yes, ma’am, I—”
“Are you single?”
“I am. But—”
“Really? A young, handsome, successful man like you?”
“Well—”
“You know, if things don’t work out between my granddaughter and that nice reporter—”
Liam shifted uncomfortably in his seat. “Ma’am, if we could get back to business. I just have a few quick questions—”
“Oh, yes, of course! You wanted me to look at more photos?”
“Well, one more.” Liam pulled up the photograph of Sabrina Simmons on his cell phone and held it out to her.
“Oh, my yes!” Stella somehow managed to convey disapproval with a nod of her head. “That was the one that was over there the most.”
“Did he entertain a lot of women?”
Stella snorted so hard she choked on her coffee. Once she recovered her breath, she clarified, “Whatever you think a lot is, multiply that by at least three!”
“That many?”
“Yes, and now that I think of it, two days before the murder, this one,” she gestured toward his phone, “showed up while one of the other ones was there.”
“Was there an argument?”
“Was there an argument?” She scoffed as a frown pulled her lips down. “Woke half the building with the screaming. I’m surprised no one called the cops.”
“Thank you. This is very helpful. Did you happen to see her on the day of the murder?”
“No, but that doesn’t mean anything. I was gone for most of the morning.”
“Where were you, again?”
“I left to help organize the church rummage sale early that morning.”
Liam checked his notes. “So, you overheard the argument between the two men when?”
“On my way out. I had to walk past Mr. Hayes’ apartment on my way to the elevator.”
“Just to review… you overheard the argument at roughly seven a.m., left for the church, followed by brunch, and returned home just after noon.”
“That’s correct.”
“So, you were home when the gunshots were fired?”
“Yes.” She shuddered. “It was terrifying!”
“And you didn’t see or hear anyone else coming or going from his apartment that day?”
“No.”
“Is there anything you can think of that you noticed that day? Anything at all?”
“I already told you everything yesterday. And that lovely reporter as well.”
Liam sighed at the mention of Riley. He couldn’t forbid a private citizen from speaking to the press, no matter how much he wanted to. But it did remind him of something. “Speaking of Miss Brooks… she mentioned you saw a woman at the victim’s apartment the night before the murder?”
“Yes.”
“Was that woman either of these?” He showed her the photographs of both Sabrina and Katie again.
Stella peered at both, then shook her head. “No.”
“Do you know who she was?”
“No, sir. I’m sorry. I couldn’t keep up with all the women that were in and out of that apartment. Besides, I don’t like to get into other people’s business.”
It took a concerted effort for him to not react to such an obviously false statement.
He jotted down a general description of the woman before extricating himself from the conversation. “Okay, ma’am. Thank you for your time.”
“I’m always happy to help the boys in blue!” she smiled proudly. “You have my number in case you have any further questions, right?”
“Yes, ma’am. I’ve got it.” Liam flipped his notepad closed. “If you think of anything else, please let us know.”
He stepped out into the hallway and reconvened with his partner. “How’d it go on your end?”
Flynn shrugged. “I found multiple witnesses that identified Sabrina Simmons as Trenton Hayes’ girlfriend, but none that could definitively place her at the scene on the day of the murder.”
“I confirmed there was a third woman here the night before the murder, but I don’t know who.”
“We’ll have the plainclothes canvas again and try to find that information. I think it’s time you and I go have a conversation with Ms. Simmons.”
“Agreed.” Liam pushed the button for the elevator. When it dinged open, he found himself face to face with Riley. “What are you doing here?”
“Good morning to you, too.” She stepped back so they could fit into the lift with her. “Probably the same thing you are.”
Liam made a noncommittal sound in the back of his throat as they stepped into the elevator. “Where’s your sidekick this morning?”
“Max?” She looked surprised at his question. “I don’t know. Probably sleeping in after that late night we all had. Why do you ask?”
Liam shrugged. “I’m just used to seeing the two of you together.”
“When I need a photographer.” She studied his demeanor, then a small grin crept across her face. “Why so interested in who I spend my time with, detective?”
“I’m not.”
Before she could answer, the elevator rocked to a stop on the first floor and the doors slid open. As they stepped off, a familiar face caught her eye. “Drake!”
The PI turned from the concierge desk to face the trio, his eyes lighting up. “Riley! What a pleasant surprise!” He was less enthusiastic as he greeted the two men. “Hello, detectives.”
The men exchanged handshakes as Liam asked, “Why are you here, Walker?”
“I’m investigating the murder of Trent Hayes. I was officially retained to do so this morning by Sadie McGraw. I was thinking it would be in both our best interests to collaborate.”
“I don’t know—”
Flynn’s phone cut through the conversation. He pulled it out and glanced down at the screen. “This is the boss. Hold on.”
Flynn stepped away to take the call, leaving Riley with Liam and Drake.
Not awkward at all.
After a brief conversation, Flynn returned to inform the group, “The chief just got out of a meeting with the mayor. We are to collaborate and cooperate fully with Walker here.”
“Great!” Drake gloated.
“Great,” Liam grumbled.
Flynn shot a pointed look at Riley. “If you’ll excuse us, ma’am, we have a case to discuss.”
“Don’t let me get in your way. I’m just going to grab a latte and update my notes.” She gave them a disarming smile and turned on her heel, disappearing into the small coffee shop located just off the main entrance.
She really was going to update her notes, but she had no intention of leaving without an update on the case. Liam was never going to crack, but she liked her chances of getting information out of Drake. She fired off a quick text as she waited for her drink.
Ten minutes later, Drake was at her table. “You said you had some information for me?”
“I said I was willing to trade information with you.” She gestured for him to sit as the barista approached to take his order.
He ordered a black coffee and then returned his attention to the reporter. “What information do you have that I can’t find out for myself?”
“Maybe none.” She lifted a shoulder. “But it took me three hours of knocking on doors to find out the identity of the woman Trent was with the night before the murder. You could spend the next three hours doing the same or we could help each other out.”
He regarded her thoughtfully for a moment. He didn’t have to reveal anything about his client to slip her the information about who the police were looking at as their prime suspect. “I suppose I could share a detail or two. You’re going to find it out on your own anyway.”
Her eyebrows raised. “How do you know that?”
“Because I did a little digging. Your investigative skills are impressive. No wonder you’ve won the Edward R. Murrow Award for journalism as well as two Scripps Awards.”
Her eyebrows arched even higher as she took a long sip of her latte before placing the cup carefully on the table in front of her. “Wow. You really did do your homework. I don’t know whether to be impressed or alarmed. Are you stalking me, sir?”
“Hardly.” He snorted. “Are you going to tell me that you did absolutely no research on me after agreeing to a date?”
“I agreed to dinner. No one said it was a date.”
“Semantics, but fine. Dinner. Answer the question. Did you not look into me at all?”
“You mean did I find out that you graduated from the police academy at the top of your class but quit six months into your first year to go into business with your father? That you have one sister, Savannah, and that you’ve never been married?”
He gave her a smug smile. “I knew you were into me.”
“Please,” she laughed, “It’s just common sense to find out what you can about a man you plan to be alone with.”
He leaned across the table with a smirk. “So, you plan to be alone with me?”
She hid a grin behind her cup. “At the very least I’ll be getting into a car alone with you when we go to dinner.”
“Is that all?”
“Well, we’ll see how the evening progresses, won’t we?”
“Can’t wait.”
“Now, are you going to tell me what you learned from the cops?”
“I don’t know. Are you going to tell me who the woman from the other night is?”
“If your information is good enough.”
“I know who their prime suspect is.”
“Is it Katie or William Sloan or Dean Collins?”
“No.”
She sat up straighter. “There’s another suspect in play?”
He twirled his coffee cup in his fingers. “Yep.”
“Okay. Yes, that’s a fair trade. Who is it?”
“Sabrina Simmons. She was his secretary when he was engaged to Katie. He cheated on Katie with Sabrina. That’s the reason they broke up. After Katie dumped him, Sabrina became his girlfriend. Last weekend, she showed up while he was entertaining someone else. Several neighbors heard the argument. The theory is that she got fed up with his womanizing. She has a history of stalking, and the cheating gives her motive.”
“Interesting theory, because the woman that was there Monday night is his current secretary.”
“Sounds like he has a history of sleeping with his secretary. What’s her name?”
“Sarah Foster. She’s not at work today. I already called.”
“Well, her boss slash boyfriend was murdered yesterday. I can track down a home address for her.”
“Way ahead of you.” She shoved her notes into her bag as she stood up. “Wanna go question her together?”
“How the hell did you get her address already?”
It was Riley’s turn to smirk. “I have my sources.”
“Okay, let’s go. But I’m driving.”
“I don’t want to leave my car here. I’ll meet you there. Here’s the address.” She quickly scribbled the information on a piece of paper.
He threw some money on the table to cover the coffee, took the slip of paper from her, and then pulled his phone out and opened the contact list.
“What are you doing?”
“Holding up my end of the deal with the CCPD. Collaboration works both ways.”
“Could you at least wait until after we have a chance to talk to her?”
He hesitated as he considered her request. “Why?”
“Because you and I both know that once the police get there, I won’t be allowed to talk to her! Police protocol this and interfering with an investigation that, blah, blah, blah… Come on…. You wouldn’t even know who she was if it wasn’t for me.”
“I would have eventually knocked on the right door and found out.”
“Yeah, hours from now, by which time I would have already interviewed her for my article. Don’t make me regret sharing information with you.”
“Fine.” He slotted the phone back into his pocket. “You get ten minutes with her, then I’m making the call.”
“Deal. Let’s go!”
The drive from Vista Heights to Sarah’s apartment complex took nearly forty-five minutes. Riley found Drake waiting for her in front of the entrance.
The apartment complex was a stark contrast to Trent’s. A dingy brick building surrounded by other dingy brick buildings, it had no doorman, and the front door was propped open. There was certainly no concierge desk or coffee shop in the lobby.
No elevator came when Drake pushed the button. “Looks like we’re taking the stairs.”
“Good thing she’s only on the fourth floor.”
As they approached apartment 412, Drake suddenly stopped and put his arm out to halt Riley.
“What?”
“Shhh….” He moved in front of her and pulled a gun from his hip. “The door is cracked open. Stay here.”
Riley Brooks hadn’t built her career by standing down. The moment Drake pushed the door open and stepped across the threshold, she followed, keeping quiet so he wouldn’t notice.
“Hello? Is anyone home? Sarah?” He called out as he made his way through the living room. He entered the kitchen and stopped in his tracks. “Well, shit.”
Riley entered right behind him, craning her neck to peer around him. Well, shit was right.
Sarah Foster lay on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood.

episode 5
carmen berzatto x reader
warnings: i wrote this late at night and in a one n done draft. apologies if i have some misspellings/other. based on episode 5 of the bear
the lights are out, and there’s nobody in sight when looking through the window. a frown paints your face; you could have sworn carm was working today, he would have said something if he managed to get a day off. you walked against the wind, around the corner of the restaurant to see if anything was happening in the back.
there was.
multiple tables were set up in a three-sided square, each one having different set ups; one for assembling, one for prepping, and one for selling. that’s where the line was, and a girl was behind it, collecting money from each person that came to the front. i’m..99% positive that’s sydney. based on how he describes her. everyone else who worked at the beef was there, too, focused on a different task. a massive makeshift grill was made behind the tables, and multiple foil containers where on different shelves. all of it kept the food warm, of course.
in the midst of your skimming the area, you got in line and realized carmy still wasn’t there. you didn’t think he died or anything, but it still worried you that he wasn’t inside or outside of the beef. it hit you too late that you had made the front of the line, and sydney’s voice broke you out of your trance.
“‘scuse me..?”
“oh! sorry,” you said, startled. red as a tomato. hesitant to ask your initial question, you ordered a random sandwich, the only sandwich, you remembered on the menu. “i was wondering, do you know where carmen is?”
the magic words prompted the soft rev of a car engine behind you. you looked back and saw it park next to the grill, and carmy got out of the driver’s seat. hair disheveled with a pissed off look; you haven’t seen him in this light too often. honestly, it was pretty hot. he was in his own world, walking between the grill and tables when he said hello to sydney and walked through the back entrance to the kitchen.
richie saw you, though; he and his shit eating grin sauntered on over to where you were, and before a word left your mouth, he spoke to you.
“here to see your little boyfriend, huh?” he changed direction and speed-walked to the back door, calling out, “carmy, there’s someone special here for you outside! don’t be fuckin’ rude!”
“what the..” your focus came back to sydney, and she already had your sandwich wrapped and ready. she didn’t wipe off her previous expression fast enough; you caught it at the last second.
“shit, sorry. uhm.. uh, how much do i owe you again?” you struggled in looking for your wallet as she told you the price, and her eyes were very openly searching your entire being when she thought you didn’t notice.
bickering made its way outside, getting louder once carmy and richie both came back outside. carmy still looked pretty pissed off, eyes wide and angry in the moment.
his demeanor changed when he looked past richie and the rest; locking eyes with him always felt like the first time. a slight tightness tugged at your chest once he smiled, and he jogged to you as you got out of line.
“hi! i hope it’s ok that i came, i finally got some free time and wanted to—“
a kiss was planted right on your lips when he got close enough, right in front of everyone; it was quick but felt with your entire mouth. a hand wrapped around your waist.
“you came on such a fucking eventful day,” he laughed as he pulled away, and you laughed with him.
pulling you in a hug, your sandwich smushed between yours and his stomach. “thank you for coming,” he whispered in your ear, chin resting on your shoulder.
“of course,” you replied. you were the one to pull away this time, feeling his strong arms move around you again. he smelled like food, and although it sounds off-putting, you actually really liked it. weirdly enough, you enjoyed guessing what he made when he used to come home from his previous job, as much as he hated it.
with a loving gaze into his eyes, it hit you; they were watching you. not just sydney, but the entire kitchen, they were watching, listening while they kept taking orders. how the hell can they do that? a bashful feeling consumed you in a second, and with your head down you mumbled, “i wanted maybe one more kiss, i just didn’t feel the one this morning.”
“it was 3am and you were dead asleep, i didn’t want to fully wake you up on your day off,” carmy said. he put his hands on either side of your face, wordlessly asking you to look at him. “i guess it worked out nicely for us, anyway.” he gave you another kiss, the moment ending as richie started yelling once more to someone else. carmy broke the kiss and sighed. “i have to get back to work, but i’ll see you tonight, ok?”
you nodded. “see you at the house.” your hands slid across his arms to his hands, lightly removing them from your face. you brought them down and gave a gentle squeeze to one before letting go. “love you.”
carmy walked away, smiling one last time before turning his body back around. one look at his employees and you knew you were toast; you quickly spun on your heel back in the way you came and left. you suppressed an embarrassed laugh as you heard richie mimic carmy, “‘i have to work, but i’ll see you later, right?’ who the fuck are you, you fuckin’ sap? there should be no PDA allowed, cousin, this is a place where people eat…”
once you were finally home, sandwich a little cold from the chill in the air, you unwrapped an end and took a bite.
it was still delicious.

Ok based on your most recent post (I am obsessed I love it sm-). I honestly think that once Delta wakes up to see them with him again he'd probably freak out a little bit, and have no idea if this is reality or another nightmare. But once he is able to figure it out, they might be upset and ask Color and Epic questions about the subjects of their nightmares (ex; about the jar one, he might ask why they couldn't hear them and why didn't they bother to look in the jars) and might completely get confused with reality.
I also think that because they had dissociated for so long (probably spanning days or weeks before they came back to reality), he would have gone completely nonverbal and would have switched to sign language (the silence also most likely made them incredibly paranoid - too paranoid to break it by speaking. So, in order to keep the quiet, they silenced themselves and haven't spoken in a good long while), furthering their dissociation and PTSD spiral.
Now of course this would concern Epic and Color, and they'd likely have to explain that the nightmares weren't reality, but would also have to try to get him to explain what the hell had happened during the time they were both gone, and why he hadn't called them for help once they're able to talk in the morning.
(But since you mentioned how they'd probably help Delta fall asleep, I can't help but wonder how they'd react if Delta woke up from a bad nightmare about them, and how the talk in the morning would go?)
I love this addition, it makes complete sense. And now that we’re on the topic about this type of thing, I actually feel like it’d be easier for Color and Epic to understand these things more than it seems.
For Color, it’s due to his relationship with Killer. We all know Killer is a dissociative character who cannot often tell what is and is not real anymore, he spends most of his time dissociating—as opposed to Delta and Beta’s episodes of intense dissociative episodes due to events in their lives.
I’m sure that Color has had to help Killer differentiate between dream, memory, and reality many times before, even if it’s as something as simple as having to lightly touch Killer’s shoulder when walking past—otherwise Killer would probably just assume he’s dreaming or it isn’t real.
On the other hand, if I remember correctly, Epic has very vivid and distressing nightmares where he has to constantly fight against creatures/a creature every night due to his magical eye thing. And as a result he learns actual fighting experience from this, but he also often wakes up in pain and panicking. His nightmares are legitimately traumatizing for him.
So I’m assuming Epic would avoid sleep as much as possible, especially in a case such as this, where a beloved friend needs sleep and can’t afford being woken up by his nightmares.
So I’m assuming that once Delta first wakes up in the middle of the night, Epic would actually already be up. He probably was surprised and taken aback by Delta’s panicking, but is quick to try and calm the two of them down.
And when Delta starts using ASL, looking unnerved at any noise made, is when Epic realizes that it was worse than he and Color had thought. And maybe he considers waking Color up, because Color has always been better with words and calming people down between the three of them, but Delta frantically shakes his head ‘no.’
Epic doesn’t argue against this, although he knows Delta is likely doing this because he doesn’t want to worry Color and be perceived as ‘weak,’ doesn’t want to disturb Color’s rest. So instead Epic, Delta, and Beta wander off into the kitchen for some late night milk and cookies.
Epic asks if they’re ready to talk about it, to which they shake their head no. Epic again doesn’t argue, instead settles on to the couch with them to watch some random tv series. He pretends not to notice how Delta keeps staring at him instead of the show, squeezing Epic’s arm tightly.
By the time morning comes around and Color is waking up, Delta and Beta have still not spoken verbally and haven’t slept. Neither has Epic—which only inevitably concerns Color even more, which only increases when Delta suddenly starts rapidly singing at him once spotted.
Color asks him to slow down as he approaches, he didn’t catch that, Epic turning down the volume on the show and turning to face the others more directly. Once Color is seated, he asks Delta to repeat what he said, more slowly this time.
Why didn’t you two hear us? Why didn’t you open it? Why didn’t you look? Why did you leave? We were screaming.
And Epic and Color share a look, confused, before Color begins prompting them to explain with more questions. Look where? Open what? Leave where?
Gradually, they begin to piece together what happened—often Delta and Beta have to pause when they start dissociating again or get too choked up, Color asks Epic to get them a glass of water at some point, but stops when they start panicking again at the question (don’t leave)—and the whole time Delta’s hands are gripping on to his friends so tightly it almost hurts.
I can see them letting Delta and Beta cry it out and calm down enough before Color starts to explain, helps them piece together what was dream and what was memory, versus what actually happened.
I can see Epic trying to make them laugh using his usual humor and memes, because he can see that their paranoia about the silence is making them cautious to speak and furthering their dissociation. Which of course makes it harder for them to fully process what was happening and what is happening.
I think, once they realized what was happening, Delta and Beta might actually feel ashamed, guilty, and/or embarrassed about how they reacted to something that “didn’t even happen.” Delta probably feels guilty, assuming it means that some part of him thinks of Epic and Color as the type of people who’d do that to them.
To which they’d have to reassure him that, no, it was out of his control and doesn’t make him a bad friend or a bad person for having nightmares and feeling abandoned.
I can also see, if either Delta or Beta realizes what happened before the other did, they will attempt to help comfort and ground the other too; such as Beta petting the body’s hand, or hugging themselves due to not being able to physically hug each other. Talking out loud to soothe each other, reminding the other that not only does Epic and Color still love them, but they love each other, too.

I was supposed to finally have a quiet moment this week, my first of 2024, to catch up on all the dramas I’m behind on, but alas — real life has gotten in the way, and it’ll still be a little bit before I have time to write big meta again. I’m way behind on thoughts for last week’s episodes of Playboyy, Last Twilight, and Cherry Magic Thailand, but I do very much want to write about them, so some quick notes on these three as follows:
1) I owe @poetry-protest-pornography and @chaos0pikachu my thoughts on camp and Playboyy. I intended to pen this post last week after last week’s episode, but said life (ha) has gotten in the way. Friends, please note that I still SO want to write this, because I think deconstructing why camp as a style works in art will be a wonderful conversation, regardless of the narrative success (or not) of Playboyy.
So, speaking of the narrative success of Playboyy — and the upcoming debate (maybe?) about a balance of style and storytelling in dramas, I watched last week’s episode of Playboyy with this post about The Sign in mind, because I think this post gets at a thing that I want to write more about re: Playboyy, which is, like — what makes a story/narrative contextually coherent, and what responsibilities do the artists behind a show have to viewers to make a story coherent?
I think one thing we were coming to in the conversation on camp at the end of last year was whether or not Playboyy could be considered a good, a successful, or maybe even a complete story by way of its various elements. At least for now, leaving camp aside, I still don’t think this show is working narratively at all. That Captain/Keen storyline had my head spinning — uh, your coach gave you one difficult practice, and you revenge on him by filming a sex tape without consent? How…..did we get there? Porsche now has feelings for Jump? I’m still not grabbing the whole Aob/Puen feelings debacle? The Nant/Nuth storyline has gotten momentum, but not enough to fill the majority of an episode, which is a shame, because it’s the only storyline element giving this show any context at the moment. And as @lurkingshan noted, the only real compelling moment in this episode was between Teena and Zouey about how they’d transcend reality to love better versions of each other. It was lovely to watch! But I’m still not sure why we’re watching all of these storylines and if, ever, they’ll come together in a coherent arc.
So, yeah man. I was so intrigued by the premise of this show. It ain’t workin’. I’ll have more to think on this regarding style. But the stories aren’t coming together — and I TRULY think that’s a shame, considering the important themes of the show.
2) From the little ability I had to poke around Tumblr last week after the last Last Twilight episode, I think (I think!) a general feeling was that the episode wasn’t as depth-y as it could have been for the MANY heavy moments of parental interventions that took place. I believe that’s right. I think there were too many gaps in the contextual flow of the show that left Day’s mom looking more like an enemy (like, even on Pran’s mom’s level) that could have been addressed with a touch more context coming from her.
Let me explain. When I see single moms in Aof Noppharnach shows, I first go to He’s Coming To Me. HCTM has the best BL mom ever — a single mom absolutely ready to embrace her son as he’s coming out.
We know Aof loves depicting moms; he wrote as much about it last year after Moonlight Chicken aired. He’s got some legendary moms — of course, Pran’s mom; Tian’s controlling mom (who I posit is actually a front for patriarchy in A Tale of Thousand Stars); Pat’s passive mom, who is actually way more down with reality than Pat’s dad; Kao’s mom that Kao is so fearful of by way of disappointment. (Special shout-out to Pete’s dad in Dark Blue Kiss as the best BL dad.)
In other words, we know Aof has the goods when it comes to commentary on parenting. We know from episode 9 that Day’s mom (Mhon) went through tremendous hardship to raise her boys, including begging for food. She’s a famous and successful chef by the time we meet her, a workaholic. She’s a single mom, a working single mom, and Porjai is about to be on the same cusp. Night happens to be the bridge to those two.
Mhon’s willingness to keep Day in his room….her ignoring Night to start the Christmas dinner. The taking away of Day’s phone, oof. Saying that Mhok crossed a line — all while she was aware that Day previously had a crush on August. These small points create quite the enemy storyline on Mhon.
This is unfortunate, because I actually felt, watching the episode, that there was a lot about Asian parenting that was being left on the table. Valuing work and the safety of one’s kids OVER their happiness is quite the social phenomenon in Asian parenting. A good bit of Day’s mom’s actions could actually be seen as appropriate by certain-minded parents in Asia.
Yet, to have Day’s mom then ignore Night during the dinner, to have Day’s mom take Day’s phone away without explaining why he can’t be in a relationship — even for an Asian viewer like myself, well used to a particular amount of conditional brutality in Asian parenting — those storytelling decisions seemed a little harsh without more context as to how Day’s mom was driven to be the way she is now.
We had plenty of context into Dissaya in episode 10 of Bad Buddy. That moment opened doors for us to get what the hell was going on. I would love to have a similar contextual moment for Mhon, words by her about her story, that tell us how she got to where she is by way of raising her boys and becoming successful. Despite her behavior to her sons — we know she worked damn hard to provide for them. A badass lies within, and I know a successful Aof show would show us that. I hope we get it.
3) Cherry Magic Thailand, episode 5! I LOVE what’s happening with Rock/Min against the Rokkaku/Minato storyline — I love this expansion, and how Rock is less clueless and much more emotionally vulnerable than Rokkaku. I love feisty Pai. I LOVE Junior’s Jinta! I have to continue covering my mouth as I cackle.
As compared to Adachi at this point in the storyline — I wonder if CMT is offering Achi a bit more of the clueless hand than he deserves. I love the embellishments to the jealousy storyline between Karan and Kurosawa — Achi and Rock pushing off in the boat alone was particularly poignant — but Achi is well aware of Karan’s heart now, and I’m a little surprised that he seems a dash clueless that his interactions with others would make Karan jealous.
This is a minor quibble, though. Achi and Adachi are two dudes unfamiliar with love. But I wonder slightly if this vibe I’m feeling is perhaps a result of the original Cherry Magic Japan story being literally doubled in time in Thailand.
Again — MINOR quibble. This show is a refreshing delight. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the next part of the storyline. I love that they found a similar place in Thailand to shoot Karan’s drunk flashback scene as Kurosawa’s in Japan. Will Achi offer us Thailand’s version of a classic JBL run? I sure damn hope so!
That’s it! I think I’ll be able to catch up on all of this week’s shows in real time, bless up!

hey there! could i request lumity x fem reader with something like general relationship headcannons or what its like to date luz and amity?
Hello!! Thank you very much for requesting! I’m honestly so obsessed with The Owl House right now, so in honor of the show’s finale, here’s the hcs! Enjoy!
She/her for all
!tw! Spoilers ⬇️
<3Lumity x fem!reader relationship headcannons<3
Tumblr media
In the begging, everything was a little bit awkward. Sweet, but awkward. Of course, that is to be expected when someone first starts dating, and three people at that! But alas, you all worked through all of the nervousness and became even closer than before!
Sometimes, being in a relationship with three people can be a bit chaotic, but luckily, you’re all masters of talking things out. Trust is one of the most important things in a relationship you know!
Luz and Amity has sort of a “sun and moon” thing going on, with you being their eclipse to balance it all out. Perfect relationship in every way!
——————————————————————————
When it comes to comfort, these girls are the best! First of all, they are both such good listeners and they give the best advice when you need it. Although, sometimes people don’t really want advice or logic when their feeling blue, and in that case, you’re girlfriends are ready with as much cuddles and words of affirmation as you need! Supportive gfs <3
Speaking of cuddles, Luz and Amity both give such good hugs, their heavenly fr. Even though Amity can sometimes be a bit awkward about it (her body just goes stiff as a board), it’s always so wholesome and sweet. Usually, Luz is the big spoon with either you or Amity in the middle, or you guys are all just huddled up in one big messy pile. Eda and King always finds it so adorable whenever you guys fall asleep together on the couch, and you can trust that they take a bunch of pictures too.
Amity often gets really flustered around you and Luz, which usually results in a lot of teasing. Her tomato face can just be too cute sometimes, and trust me, you get to se it A LOT!
Luz however doesn’t get flustered as much as Amity, but it’s still easy to get a stunned expression and red tinted cheeks out of her. You just gotta know what to say.
You all literally scream relationship goals fr.
——————————————————————————
Now, when it comes to the rest of the gang, they all support you guys so much! They think it’s so cool that you guys have a relationship, and even though they tease you about it from time to time (especially Eda, while Hunter mostly gets annoyed from all your lovey dovey stuff), they truly think that what you guys have is the sweetest thing ever. Oh and Hooty is your biggest fangirl, I’m not even joking.
Luz and Amity can be protective AF! Don’t get me wrong, they don’t really go around and get jealous of everything and stuff, but if anyone, witch or human, says anything to upset their girl, they’re really gonna get it.
Kisses with these two are usually fast and sweet.
Luz normally just goes in for a quick peck before turning away with pink tinted cheeks and a small smile, acting like nothing happened.
Amity on the other hand looks at you a bit before slowly leaning in. Afterward, she quickly retrieves, face completely burning up and her eyes as wide as plates. (Sort of like when she kissed Luz’s cheek in that one episode)
These girls are absolute suckers for hugs n’ kisses, and especially when they’re from you~
You guys are the most dorky couple EVER! Your all so silly, it’s adorable honestly.
Luz definitely loves picking her two girls up. She might say she has weak nerd arms, but we’ve all seen that that’s not true. There has been moments when she just comes up behind you, and with a little “aaand scoop!” she simply swipes you off of the ground while giggling.
I feel like you all give off kinda like a summerly girl in red vibe.
You and your girlfriends DEFINITELY have sleepovers and Azura movie nights! (I also said this in my Amity fic, haha)
Praise is one of the main factors of your relationship. These girl got TRAUMA and since you probably also got some as well (taken in perspective that the whole cast of this show have and does go through a lot), praise and words of affirmation/encouragement is super important to them.
——————————————————————————
When you got sent to the human realm, it was a hard time for everyone, but with the love and support from each other, you all managed to make the best of it and have a wonderful time together.
Camilla absolutely loves you and Amity so much, she is such a sweetheart!!
After some quality time spent in the human realm, you and the others, along with Camilla, finally managed to return to the Boiling Isles. And as we all know, even more challenges were lying ahead.
When things seemed dark, you, Luz and Amity always stuck together, and supported each other the whole way, never ever letting you or each other feel like they were alone in this.
In the end, you all helped each other so much with developing as a person! With all of the love and encouragement, everything turned out just fine, and these girls couldn’t be happier! Ever since this whole crazy adventure started, you’ve all gotten so much closer together, and really formed a special bond. To be able to be in a relationship with you like this is the best things to have happened to either Luz or Amity, and they never want to let that go in the hopes to someday be able to put a ring on it.
Tumblr media
Anyways, thank you so much for reading, and feel free to send in more toh requests<33

for those of you keeping up with the sam reich!master/game master cinematic universe currently being masterminded by the delightful @northernfireart and my good self: oh BOY there's a part 3 coming, and she's a doozy, currently clocking in at 9600+ words with a decent chunk still to go. the end is in sight, though, and while i might split the final post into two or maybe three parts, depending on how i'm feeling, hopefully i'll be able to get the first of those parts out on sunday/monday (time zones...) to fill the hole left by the game changer episode that should be released at that time...
however! delayed gratification is for chumps! so to whet your collective appetite, i've put together a "trailer" of scene fragments >:3 feel free to read on its own, or while listening to this particular track for added ambience!
trailer starts under the cut for those who want to launch into part 3 when it comes out without spoilers :)
The Doctor ran his hands over the TARDIS console, marvelling at her clean lines and metallic flourishes, the way that even now she felt brand new but familiar, and paused. He’d just pop off for a quick adventure, nothing too dangerous, but—where to go?
He could scan for a distress call nearby, and pitch in to help. He could drop in on Donna and Shaun and Rose, beautiful Rose, and see how they were all doing. Or he could just hit the randomiser button, and jump in feet first wherever he ended up.
\\\
This was a game show. And with the Toymaker banished, and Satellite Five not coming into existence for another 198000 years, give or take, the Doctor found himself smiling. Maybe third time would be the charm.
///
“Get ready for a Game Changer!” came the host’s voice from onstage. “Tonight’s guests: he can shoot off a monologue with laser accuracy; it’s Brennan Lee Mulligan!”
Brennan, his back to the camera as the curtains opened, spun on his heel and, with a stone-cold expression, pointed finger guns straight down the barrel, before letting the facade crack open. “Hi!” he exclaimed, and walked over to the leftmost podium.
“It’s his first appearance, but he’s already on fire; it’s the Doctor!”
The Doctor leant against the archway to the stage and flashed a broad smile towards the camera, then in a few skipping steps, had bounded over to the next free podium.
“And even in the toughest of mazes, you’ll always be able to find him; it’s Grant O’Brien!”
Grant dipped his lanky frame into an approximation of a curtsey, spreading his arms wide, then sauntered over to the closest podium with a grin.
“And your host, me!” Sam Reich announced, a ring of manic white showing around his irises as he beamed down the barrel of the camera. “I’ve been here the whole time!”

—and then came the crash, the explosive noise of heavy machinery moving relentlessly through a drywall set.
The Doctor was already moving. “Everyone down!”
“Duck!” Brennan yelled at the same time.
The two of them hit the ground within milliseconds of each other, but Grant was still paralysed in the face of the giant, science-fiction type laser cannon that had just ploughed through the wall.
///
“I’m going to hate this so much,” Brennan muttered.
“So’s he,” Grant smirked, then raised his voice. “Oh, Daddy,” he started in a breathy singsong. “Daddy, do you want to make us play for you, huh? Do you want to degrade us, Daddy? Hurt us?”
\\\
“You’ll never get to them all in time,” came the voice through the speaker, dangerously soft. “You can try, of course, but if you die up here, well. That just leaves your new human friends alone with me while you regenerate, and goodness knows what I can do in that time.”
“You don’t get to do that,” the Doctor growled, even as another detonator deactivated. “You don’t get to hurt them because of me.”
For a moment, only laughter echoed into the room. “Better make your decision now, Doctor. Two detonators down, eleven to go, and they’ll reach spark point in ten… nine…”
///
“But you won't, don't you see? Nobody can win a rigged game—the best you can do is run it through to the end. You're standing at that podium, and we're over here, and that's why you can't win. Because no matter how many points you take away from me, you never had points at all. You want to beat me? Then play.”
\\\
“Run?” Brennan suggested.
“Run!”
///
“And lastly, Doctor.” Sam’s smile broadened. “Sam says: say my name.”
“You can’t be,” the Doctor breathed.
Sam smirked, leaning in across his podium. “Oh, but Doctor… I’ve been here the whole time,” he stage-whispered with a wink.
“He said you lost,” the Doctor said, shaking his head, looking wrong-footed for the first time that Brennan and Grant could recall. “You lost, and he trapped you.”
Sam just smiled, drumming his fingers against the podium with an audible beat, fast but distinct. Four taps, four taps, four taps. “I’m waiting.”
The Doctor took a slow, deep breath. Set his jaw.
“Master.”
